Question about home defense

I would believe it. I am a firm believer in the Mantra; noone knows you carry a gun, you walk away if there is trouble, you run if you must. You do everything you can to avoid showing someone a gun. Once you do, the escalation cannot cease. You are then left with the assailant's fight or flight instinct, with more often than not my money being on fight.

You pull a gun, most likely you are going to have to use it.

Next, shoot the guy dead as a doornail, if someone is in my house there are witnesses that will say the assailant did not threaten, but promised to kill us, told me he had a gun and a knife and that I shouted for him not to reach for it.

Also, I live in a castle doctrine state. And I doubt I would move to one that isn't. No duty to retreat, deadly force via perceived threat (it was dark and he did not leave when he found out we were home)

I spend one night in jail while its worked out at the most and most likely none. I am an attorney and know a bunch of really good criminal defense attorneys. So attorney, army vet without a parking ticket, family man and good corporate citizen vs. dead guy. Shot with a revolver or a service automatic loaded with factory ammo that say defense on the box after he told my family he came to cut them up into little pieces.

I'm betting I tell a better story than dead guy. Cause he's dead. Better yet, I didn't go find him, he found me... came after me while reaching for the flamethrower he said he was going to bake me with...

Did you happen to read the post I quoted prior to it being edited? Where the poster wrote exactly that. All I did was bold the text, I did not change the wording.

For an attorney you sure haven't done much research on Ayoob, because he has never been in a gun fight (let alone survived multiple gun fights as you put it). If you can find evidence that proves he was, I'm sure there are thousands of people who would like to see it. I find it rather hard to believe that a city of less than 5000 where Ayoob is a reserve captain has had enough gun fights since 1972 for him to have survived multiple gun fights, if they have had any at all.

I love threads where people ask a question for LE, the majority of respondents are not LE, and the replies are mostly pablum based on regurgitated hypothetical ideas from other non LE folks.

I'd weigh in on the OP's question, but I am on my way to the commercial pilot, military special forces, and architectural engineering boards to post my valuable advice on things I know nothing about.

While your at those boards speaking about that which you don't know, make sure you present lots of potentially incriminating statements about how you're going to lie during investigations because that sure shows that you believe what you did was right... it's not like social media accounts are examined during murder investigations.

I will try to do that if time permits. But I am currently posting some pointers and advice about crosswind airliner landings I picked up from my Microsoft Flight Sim game. On another board I am coaching some Special Forces soldiers on advanced infantry tactics I have used effectively in Arma III.

It is all about giving back and spreading wisdom to my fellow aviators and operators.

OP: remember that any decision on whether to press charges will be made by the district attorney / prosecutor, not the responding officers, nor any investigators should they be called out. And remember that a DA may have interests that diverge from a pristine, pure desire to do the right thing.

In the (perhaps unlikely) event that there is a competing narrative, you'd be in a stronger position as the initial complainant, and having noted for the responding officer(s) evidence that tends to support your narrative, and which can be documented in the initial report and subsequent testimony should it ever be needed.

I don't have to. What I really know is he has been an expert witness in self defense shootings so many times it probably outnumbers the number of times I've had to go to court at all... because I spend my time researching important things... like my job :-).

Ayoob is the man, and that all I have to know. Somewhere down the road I thouht I had read he'd been in a number of scrapes... but I know he's gotten a whoooooole lot of people out of some deep trouble.

There is so much hilarity in this post. I'm not LE but I am armed security, and a combat vet.

For 90% of you posting who have no real actual training...you are just as likely to freeze and be paralized with fear as you are to do anything. Secondly if you think you have time to decide things in a life and death situation then not only are you ignorant but you are also a fool.

To whoever said the garbage about clearing a home being too dangerous even for an "experienced military operator" you have no idea what your talking about there.... I guess every Marine or soldier who ever had to room clear spontaneously combusted..... stop and proceed directly to an urban combat course or never talk about room clearing ever again.

It absolutely blows my mind how often this forum erupts into **** posting. To the LEO's who gave their earnest advice to the OP, thank you. You guys are stellar.
