Where to get a decent Crown Vic?

Actually the backseat was the cleanest part of our cars that were retired. The brand new factory seats were pulled and stored. When the cars were retired, they pulled the plastic seats out and put back the brand new rear seats that were sitting in storage for 5 years. Obviously not all PD's do this.

Last time I checked, craigslist had a good selection for around 2-3k.

Buy one that's not black and white. The black and whites go airborne, over curbs HARD, off them harder, off road, through deep water, bottom out in dips and speed bumps at 70 mph, driven almost daily at 100mph+, damaged in collisions and pieced back together again. Any crown vic that's not black and white(I mean literally both black and white, solid black and solid white is different) means it was likely not a patrol car which see little to none of the stuff I listed above. They're usually driven by investigators and support positions to patrol like lieutenants, captains and chiefs. If you can find one around 100k miles give or take, it should give you several years of faithful service. In all my years of pushing crown vic's I've never had a major failure from one, even driving ones with 145k on them.

I had been looking to buy one as a commuter, except it would only give me about 2mpg more than my full sized truck. Crown Vic's are great cars and PD's wouldn't use them if they weren't. I have a saying, if you want to see how durable or reliable your product is.....give it to cops or marines and you'll find out. Another plus of owning a crown vic is to drive it through the ghetto and step on the gas. The sound will be turning heads and it wont be to check out your sweet ride, it will be to see if its time to run from the cops or not ;-) If you couldn't tell, I'm really going to miss them once they're all gone!!!!

After driving the SUV's and hearing what the fleet mechanics have to say about them, they're complete and total garbage. They're basically falling apart and the weakest point is the transmission. I personally wouldn't buy a used explorer.

I know...mental mind block for me too many folks with all kinds of deposited body fluids and ecoutrements left for our perusal in that back seat...

That does'nt cover the doors and floors and other crevices where fluids may flow!

Crown Vics are not sold civie, you have to buy a used Mercury Marquis - not sold anymore, either. The milage standards are too high for cars to even have the Crown Vic on the market. This is why so many SUVs are sold(they are not cars for EPA milage standards).

Why would you even want a Crown Vic? So you can pretend you are a po-leece-man?

It is also a great option for your teenagers to learn how to drive on. When they get into an accident, and they will, they will walk away from it.

When L.A. County did their auctions I almost got a red Crown Vic. It was a Fire Department Battalion Chief's assigned take home car. It was clean and low mileage. The wife did not want red so we did not get anything.
