EMT/Paramedic/Firefighter/SAR...where do we post?

Sure, go ahead with your questions. In California, urban search & rescue (USAR) is typically handled by the fire department, while wilderness SAR is the responsibility of the county sheriff. While there are a few private or unaffiliated SAR teams here, you're almost always an unpaid employee of your local SO if you join a SAR team here. Post or PM if you want to know something.

It is harder getting in than you might think. I spent 3 and a years as an EMT because medic classes got filled very quickly. I was located in San Diego County at the time. Before I got my job as a Border Patrol Agent, I was still applying to medic school up until I left for academy. I got a call 3 weeks in that a spot had opened up if I wanted it. I almost took it.

I worked at almost every company in San Diego at the time. Pacific, Ambumed, Rural metro, and AMR. They all pay peanuts, so if you are going to do it, you have to be ready to make as much as Johnny fry boy who messes up orders while packing heart attacks in a bag.

I had a very similar experience. I was planning on going to Daniel Freeman before i got fed up and took a U-turn and went into the police academy as a self sponsor and got picked up when i graduated. It was hard to come to terms with the fact that people cut potatoes and grilled burgers all day were make more money than i was.
