How about we don't play silly little word games in the LE forum? You knew what he meant, so knock it off.

Once retired, the peace officer exemption from the roster, and the conventional ability to purchase or to import large-capacity magazines goes away.

A retired LEO may lawfully carry and use large-capacity magazines, but for that matter, so can anyone else (except for the few municipalities that have local ordinances concerning magazine capacity).

There is a "quirk" in the Penal Code that defines large-capacity magazines as "Nuisances" and makes them subject to seizure, even though lawfully possessed. That "quirk" makes no exception for peace officers.

Of course, every law has its "work arounds." I've been retired for three years now and can still purchase off-roster handguns (without a waiting period) and large capacity magazines.

Please tell. Even as an FFL I can't purchase off-roster pieces. Would like to know the hole you're getting through.

The hole he is out of is that he probably does not live in the hole known as california. He probably now lives in a state with non california laws that may actually allow folks to buy stuff.

I hope to do that myself when i finally pull the retirement trigger 11 years from now.

You guys are good. You figured this out in a heartbeat.

Getting out of California was the best thing I ever did.

Ron - King County, Washington. You can't surf in Utah.

The only break retired LEO's get is they don't have to take the gun safety test...
