    Guilty

Well that didn't take very long.
A federal jury on Wednesday convicted former Los Angeles County Undersheriff Paul Tanaka of deliberately impeding an FBI investigation, capping a jail abuse and obstruction scandal that reached to the top echelons of the Sheriff's Department.

I worked with Tanaka before he lateraled to LASD. Met him a couple times since. He always struck me as a pretty smart guy. But maybe just a little too ambitious.

Heard he was the most evil deputy in Lynwood in the 80s & 90s.

He's a piece of feces that can rot in jail.

I've been at a gathering of LASD Retirees in Laughlin this week. It was the hot topic today and everyone I spoke with was happy with the verdict.

                  Wow!
He could have been elected Sheriff in the last election.

I find it incredible that, according to the media, he's looking at possibly 15 YEARS while Baca is looking at only 6 MONTHS...

And how many for Leland Yee?

And when do they start on Hillary?

And...Gardena? That's my home town. Been up in NorCal since '83.

                      Sad.

                      Let him rot in prison.

Baca isn't looking at six months. He's looking at five years.

Dr. Baca's plea agreement binds him to his guilty plea if the judge elects to sentence him to six months or less. The judge may sentence him up to the five year maximum for the crime (lying to a federal agent (18USC1001)) that he was charged with. If the sentence awarded is greater than six months, then Dr. Baca has the option to withdraw his plea and go to trial.

I am hopeful that the judge will award a term much longer than the six months hoped for in the plea agreement. The subordinates who carried out his direction to frustrate the FBI investigation received prison terms up to 41 months. The senior-most person involved in the scheme should receive the longest sentence, not the shortest sentence, for the misconduct.

There is going to be a problem issuing Dr. Baca a prison term longer than that issued to Mr. Tanaka. Mr. Tanaka was charged with Obstruction of Justice and Conspiracy while Dr. Baca was not. Those charges allow ten more years in prison.

If you ever worked for Paul Tanaka, you would know that he took care of his people. The safety and well-being of his deputies always had priority over the dirtbags roaming the streets.

I'm sure the same was true when it came to the coddling of inmates in the county jail. Running the jail system is a dirty business that few want to acknowledge. I think it would be difficult to find a person who could do a better job with fewer injuries to the deputies and jail staff.

                            417atty, I beg tto differ.

If tanaka really had the "safety and well-being of his deputies" as a priority, why didn't he take a stand for the people under his command and admit he made the orders when they were inicted for following his direction? He sat silently and watched his loyal minions go up the river.

Tanaka is and has always been about himself. His arrogance showed when he lied on the stand stating he didn't recall or denying calling the shots. He has never been known for having a short memory. Anyone in the LASD for the past 10 years know Tanaka was calling all the shots. The leutenants and sergeants operating pandoras box called Tanaka directly. They didn't call the Sheriff, nor their direct supervisors, they called Tanaka. Another criminal goes up the river.....

Well, I can only give my opinion of him when he was WC at Lennox back in the 90's. I'm sure many people change when given more power. Unfortunately, that may have been what happened to him...
