The difference between being an engineer and driving though is that the Chatsworth accident brought us PTC for trains. It was federally mandated to be in effect on all passenger trains by the end of 2015 (but it has been pushed back a year or two now) and CA is leading it now (I think AK has been using it for a while) but sadly PTC for cars would be a complete nightmare. If all of the windows jokes about crashing cars had died, they would be back in force. Now though we have better train management and even though PTC is still screwy, it is one step closer to being implemented across the country for trains- But I do not know about freight, only passenger I think. Folks are resistant to using it though and it seems that even Metrolink does not care to put the engineers and dispatchers in the same training classroom so nobody is on the same page.

Last night I think might have been the straw that broke this camel's back...

I was so ****ing livid I was practically screaming (windows up of course) at these idiots in Pomona last night...

So I was on Towne under the underpass waiting behind an idiot that did NOT pull up to the limit line. At this particular light, where you are on Towne waiting to get onto the 10-E you can go up and then start the turn and then stop for the light. So this idiot in front of me was stopped about 8' back from the limit line and THAT allowed the idiots coming off the 10-E to get into the number 1 lane and even be over the median lines a bit, but now sticking into the intersection. But because the idiot in FRONT of me was not aiming in the direction they needed to be aiming at, that allowed all of the off ramp folks to block us a bit because they probably did not think that we were TURNING even though we WERE right there. So I am watching and I look over to the left and I saw a Honda with about 15' in front of them and I was thinking, JUST PULL UP! but NO. they had to be retarded and have that 15'+ of space in front of them and THEN the light turned green for the people across from us to go and THEY too filled the intersection. And I watched and I was already predicting how it was going to turn out, but THEN the traffic started moving, but not enough and then I saw the yellow and then the red, waiting, waiting, waiting, and then FINALLY I saw OUR green arrow and the idiots in front, had not moved forward enough and had now blocked us in, so the idiot in front of me just pulled forward a little AND DID NOTHING! THEY DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I WAS PULLING OUT MY HAIR AND YELLING! HONK YOUR HORN! And then I remembered this post. And I looked down and saw the center of my CVPI steering wheel, with two growing, pulsating and now starting to glow HORN emblems that were just begging to be mashed so I gave in to the sweet release and I BLASTED EVERYONE in that intersection with about 4 long CVPI honks. I did not even hear the horn, It was like a symphony of music and a warm airy bliss had swept over me momentarily because I had refused to stay silent and give my consent for these asshats to do what they were doing and block us in. And that must have scared the **** out of the people in front of me because they turned slightly to the right and gunned it and went around the 3 cars that were still blocking the intersection, and now it was MY turn, so I pulled up and TURNED like the previous car SHOULD HAVE DONE and I was now aiming directly at some idiot's door so once again I BLASTED everyone with the horn and I kept on hitting it and these idiots FINALLY pulled to the right and got out of our way and I was yelling at them for being such idiots that I almost took the bumper off a POS Chrysler 300 that was trying to get out of my way (they were the LAST idiot in the intersection). By the time I got on the freeway on-ramp, that car that was in front of me where the driver had no balls or something they had gunned it so fast that they were not only on the freeway, but they were clearly a hundred + yards ahead of me at this point. I think they had to go change their shorts. They were HAULING ***. I just started laughing when I got on the freeway.

But you know what? As much as stupidity and living in this state pisses me off, I felt like a dick for honking my horn at the idiot in front of me when I was NOT honking at them, I was honking at the other idiots that were blocking us all with their cross traffic and because THEY did not know how to drive correctly and the idiot in front of me was too much of a sissy to honk their horn, Because they were NOT part of the solution, they were part of the problem and I had to step up to the plate and honk and after a brief moment I was thinking about it and had I NOT honked, I would have been very pissed at the idiot in front of me because 1. They did not even pull up to the light, 2. they did not even honk, not even after I honked, 3. they seemed content to just pull forward and TURN and make those people know that they were supposed to be turning or going across there, but the idiots in the street did not care. Nobody cared. Except me. After that happened I felt that I now needed two things on my Vic. 1. a dash cam to film these retards that do this crap and then put it on youtube for entertainment and 2. a PA system on my car so that I could have let loose with a verbal onslaught of insults and told these morons that they did not know how to drive... In a professional manner of course. I think I might have to settle for a dash cam and a BNSF Loco air horn with compressor. Having a PA might be too tempting for me to yell at everyone that pisses me off.

God I am so getting sick of these stupid people that do not know how to drive. I wish I had the mercedes from The Lost Highway so that I could run some of these idiots into trees...

Tomorrow I am going to be calling Pomona PD traffic division to report this incident and see if they can send more motors over there to get on idiots that do this crap.

So I'm taking my daughter for a leisurely drive, trying to teach her the rules of the road and proper driving etiquette, when all of a sudden, some bats*** crazy guy in the car behind us at the intersection starts honking and visibly freaking out. I thought he was gonna go off the deep end and was worried he might go postal, so I put my foot the accelerator, grabbed the wheel from my daughter and got the heck out of dodge!

Now she doesn't even want to ride in the car. I think she has PTSD from the whole experience.

Oh the memories of so cal traffic.....

SoCal traffic is horrible but considering the overwhelming number of cars on the road there it's actually not bad. I've found that people there generally drive in fairly predictable (if not always safe) ways.

Now in the Bay Area on any given day you can find clueless people driving 45 mph side by side in the fast lanes refusing to let anyone by, people changing lanes and speeds to no discernible reason, people in their eco electric cars trying to beat their previous MPG record trying to coast up hills.

Just yesterday I was cut off by an old lady coming out of a parking lot in front of me and trying to decide which lane she wanted to be in at 15 mph. Which isn't that remarkable except she was driving a spanking new Maserati!

Last month someone randomly stopped in the school road in front of me and started backing up. I honked for all I was worth and she came within inches of hitting me, which would have been hilarious except that I'd probably be the one getting penalized for rear-ending her.

I'm considering trading my small fast car for a truck, since I can't go fast anyways, and at least trucks get seen.

I see huge distance gaps up front lately
not sure if the drivers are really short, or not paying attention but stop when they see the line
or are looking at a phone and just stop when they think they are close enough. I do look for phones but never see any, could be holding them low
not realizing they stopped like 20 feet away

but im fine with that, gives me a nice buffer zone when I lane split up to the front

This is why I use my horn all the time now.....seriously my horn use has increased tenfold the past few years, up to several times a day.

I give the drivers in front of me a second or two to react to a green before I hit my horn.

just start honking horns more often now

if they look like they are driving slow, honk
if they look like they are on a phone, honk

This tactic works, as long as you are physically and mentally ready for a potential altercation with the person you are honking at.

The fact that you are right and they are wrong does not preclude the potential for them to take offense and aggro you. The stakes get even higher if you have your loved ones in the vehicle with you.
