    Agency require off-duty qaulification?

I was curious how many agencies out there make their officers/sworn personnel qualify with their off-duty carry guns? I know my agency requires me to qualify bi-annually with each gun I plan on carrying off duty. (This is new this year, it was previously an annual qualification)

I actually enjoy it, but I try to go to the range at least twice a month. But the scary part is that some officers, especially our older guys ONLY shoot when it's time to qual.

My department requires a quarterly qualification with each off-duty weapon carried. No restriction on weapon as long as you can shoot the qualification course and pass the same as we do with our duty weapons.

Quarterly qualification with each off-duty weapon. $8 per weapon, shoot on your own time (off the company dime), and use your own ammo. Same course of fire as the duty weapon.

Quarterly off-duty quals on my time and dime. I enjoy it, so certainly not complaining.

LASD requires trimester qualifications for any firearm carried, on or off duty. Took me a while to qualify with all the guns I carried.

Just had my department quarterly qualification yesterday, we qualify both on and off duty weapons at the same time with department issued (training) ammo. The off-duty qualification course is slightly modified. Department also issued hollow-point ammo for both on and off-duty carry.

Annual qualification with off duty weapons on your own time and with your own ammunition. The qual course is simplified and shortened. This is the same as for back up guns.

LASD is now quarterly qualification for on-duty guns and annual for off-duty guns. Of course, one can shoot more... as often as desired as long as the ranges are open. Saturday practice is open with (I think) 250 rounds available per person... For free.

Good to hear they're back to quarterly qualifications. In the early 90's we did monthly qualifications, but it was a pain to manage as a supervisor. Shooting skills were up then. Guys were hitting their targets, then the budget crunch dropped them to trimester quals due to money.

We are required to shoot a qual course every quarter and a separate one once a year for any off duty weapon we carry, which is whatever the range instructor that day wants to test us on.

Quarterly qual with duty gun and annual qual with back ups and off duties.

I'm retired now, but my old agency did require qualification with off duty guns. Had to use department issued ammunition off duty too.

So it sounds like many of you have to qualify with your backup/off duty guns on your own time and dime? Is it on the honor system? I would think thats a liability.
