I think you may have written about San Diego PD or SO in another post. If so, haven't they had some financial problems over the years? Even bankruptcy? Keep in mind the courts have held cities can file bankruptcy (Stockton & San Jose) come to mind. The courts decided current employee and retirement benefits are not protected. Those retirees and current employees took a haircut. Just make sure your municipality is financially stable. Good luck...
San Diego city had some financial issues, but did not file BK. The county has not had any issues.

The CHP is strongly considering going into uncharted territory by hiring Laterals who would undergo a short academy. This is a result of not being able to find qualified candidates.

SD Harbor Police. Good wages, benefits, but have 2.7 @ 57 retirement unless you're a lateral...

          Entry/academy level closes Dec 13!

We are looking for good candidates...Entry test is Jan 30th.

Don't they get thousands of people to show up for testing? I also thought there was a backlog of people that had already been processed, waiting for an academy date?

Sounds like you guys have it pretty good in California.
I'm in Florida, Ive been on 15 years and make $26 an hour, family medical is $950 a month, patrol officers top out at $27. Union is a complete joke, does nothing here, Florida is a right to work State, even if we go to arbitration, and the arbitor sides with the department, the City puts up the one finger salute. Its non binding.
              No medical on retirement.

I wasn't even looking to lateral, but after checking it out Huntington Beach PD was the place to go. If you visit the city website you can use the salary calculator and determine what you would make based on your own experience etc. Continous testing despite the date online for the next testing session.

Hard to find, and keep qualified people. When I tested, 4500+ people took the written over 3 days. Only 44 were hired to attend the academy.Money isn;t everything, but it does help get the best people.

Huntington Beach PD does pay well.. At one point I was looking at moving over to a beach side community; but I have decided that if I move prior to retirement it will be out of state. No point in relocating in CA.

A majority of departments that still have 3@50 or something close to that plan for the new hires, don't get 100% life time medical coverage. That's HUGE!!!
