I agree. Don't give up. Sometimes there may have been a few other candidates that they thought were "better". You can ask the Pre-Employment Division and possibly even your BI what are some things you can work on for the future. They won't tell you specifically, but that is one way of getting around that.

Hopefully, you're young to keep at it and don't settle for something else.

Thanks man. I'm trying to stay positive.

I've been applying and testing for almost 2 years now.

I'm totally clean too. No criminal history. No drug history (not even weed).

I don't understand why this is happening.

Last time I got turned down it was obviously political because of the dept.

        This time, I'm clueless.

        Thanks,

I'm still in the process for CDCR. So at least I have that going and I'm not at square one.

I'm tempted to contact my BI and ask for advice but the letter I got was strongly worded to not contact the department reguarding reasons, etc. So I don't want to cross lines or burn bridges at all.

Yeah I'm young ish. I'm 25 and I'm trying as hard as I can to get a good career underway. Each time I've applied its taken about 8 months to make it to the hiring board/executive interview. I'm getting pretty frustrated with the time I've been loosing and getting yanked around. I was even told that the department wanted me in an earlier academy and that's why they were rushing me through. Then I finally make it to the end to only get "we don't want you"... Again...

I don't have forever. The clock is ticking hard in my current situation and I'm constantly running out of options.

        Still, I'm staying hopeful.

Most of us got several of those letters before getting hired. It's a highly competitive field with a LOT of applicants. Pretty common for hundreds or thousands vying for one or two or ten spots. Doesn't really mean much. Apply again, and apply everywhere.

Keep applying. The process gets old and its ment to discourage you. Don't let it get you down. Like someone said some people recieved many of those before getting hired.

Hang in there, guy. Like the others said, you gotta keep applying over and over again until you get that golden ticket. I feel you - it is discouraging. When you don't know where you went wrong, how can you make an improvement for next time?

I drove up and down the state several times for written exams and such before I got an offer. It wasn't fun spending hundreds of dollars to drive 8+ hours only to not make a department's cut. My own hometown city department was really interested in me, until they found out I had a firefighting background. Then the guy abruptly ended the conversation and was like, "Uhm....yeah...ok. It was nice meeting you!" My other local county department wouldn't take me to backgrounds even though I had some very relevant experience for that particular role. I was also a prior county employee (with a county background check from their own department already clear!). So, yeah, it was probably some bogus, political reason I didn't move on with either of those places.

BUT I kept slogging away at it until I finally had that badge in my hand!

                Do not give up!!

                  Become a Paramedic or firefighter/EMT.

Civii service hiring processes suck. Just ask your BI why you were denied and who their "ideal" recruit is. If you remain slient you'll never know what to fix. I applied for the Sheriffs dept in my area got disqualified,so did my friend.

I became a EMT don't regret it. People are always thanking me, some complain sure. But I've done amazing things like transporting heart attack patients with a life flight crew that I met at their helicopter. Our jobs are not to judge people, all those things become meaningless in the big scheme of things.

its amazing to see so many different personalities come together and work on a very sick person.

Yes, because we all know how easy THAT is. There are only like 2-3 people applying for each open slot, right?

I figured you'd be in shortly... still more opportunities, even if you can't get hired on as a FF/EMT or medic. Guess what? There are private companies that do brush clearing or rescue operations. Your a paramedic/EMT, you can work in the emergency room as a E.R tech in a hospital. A whole private industry exists without the civil service hiring process. AMR, Rural Metro.

Don't get discouraged. The hiring process is a lot like dating. Usually, both you and the department need to date a few people to find the right one.

Hang in there, eventually you will find a good fit.

                        Stay safe.

Keep at it, also consider civilian positions in an agency to get your foot in the door. That is the route I went after a few years of testing, even a complete background, and I was canned after my psych. I can only assume it was the psych that DQ'd me because agencies are very tight lipped sometimes.

I ended up getting bad news. Looks like I was a "non-select" for the academy.

They rushed me through, even told me they wanted me in the earlier academy.

I passed everything and did my executive interview.

Today I received a letter saying I am "no longer being considered".

This is really frustrating. This is the second time this has happened to me in a row.
Happened to me three times in a row before I first got hired. Keep trying and it will eventually happen.

First department I applied for I got hired, I was 21. It helped that I was in college and working for the department as a volunteer for two years to get college credits. Are you applying for a PD or SO? See if they have a citizens academy, or like my agency has OES, search and rescue, anything to help you get to know people and a foot in the door. If you want it that bad, you'll get it.
