Final interview in about 2 weeks! - Update 2: Turned down for the second time...

    Update #2 on post 13

    ---------------------------

    Update on post 8

Well, I am super excited! I got notice that I will be having my executive interview with a bay area department in about two weeks!

Super nervous and excited at the same time. I've been trying to get into law enforcement for about 2 years now. Lots of applications, interviews, tests, etc. and it looks like I may have finally made it to the point where I'll be academy bound.

I am trying to not get overly hopeful but this is everything that I have been working so hard for. I can't wait to take this next big step in life!

In my notification I was told I would be asked questions on my background process/investigation along with the polygraph test.

Can anyone give me any other advice on curve balls that could possibly get thrown at me during this interview with top brass?

Be yourself and don't be a smart axxxx. They will find out if you are sincere when you answer the questions. It is perfectly okay to said "I don't know" if you don't know the answer.

Also, my answer is "yes" or "yes, sir" not "yeah."

Do not lie and be yourself. Keep up on your interview skills, that intro and closing statement especially, you know the drill already.

I would ride with the agency if you have not as well, you may get to know more about the department other than what is on the city website.

Do not down play anything they bring up in your background. You may think something they ask you about is no big deal, and it may not be, just don't act like it was no big deal. Explain your mistakes as something you learned from. Don't get too cocky, you do not have a job until you have a start date. Good luck.

Thanks. Yeah I pretty much have nothing to worry about when it comes to background. No drug history. No criminal history. Nothing questionable at all really except for one tiny thing (an old confrontation) which I already explained to background and am prepped tight for that.

          So excited for it all!

Hey guys, I just finished my Executive Interview and it felt fairly weird. Yeah I was super nervous and felt like I didn't get out everything I wanted to say. I was in and out in under 5 minutes. I was never given a conditional offer of employment but the way they talked it sounded like I was being moved forward to attend the academy. Looks like I'm being moved forward to psych and medical. I walked away from the interview feeling like stuff was still up in the air. So, I guess they will contact me and let me know. They were trying really hard to get me into last academy. But yeah, just feel nervous with not getting a firm answer on what's going on.

The whole process has been easy. The hardest part is being prepared to "sell yourself". I'll admit it during this last interview with the top brass I did a horrible job of doing that because I let my nervousness get the best of me.

                    Remain calm
Sell yourself as a great hire for the dept.
Be 100% truthful on your background.

If you're moving to psych and medical it would seem as if you're moving forward. I'll PM you.

                          Well guys,

I ended up getting bad news. Looks like I was a "non-select" for the academy.

They rushed me through, even told me they wanted me in the earlier academy.

I passed everything and did my executive interview.

Today I received a letter saying I am "no longer being considered".

This is really frustrating. This is the second time this has happened to me in a row.

I wonder if they will tell you why? My guess is that they won't, but it might be worth asking humbly for a reason why. It will satisfy your curiously, and might help you if you decide to go another round.

Was your executive interview weighted or was it a pass/fail portion of the testing? Also, there's no way of knowing if there's something they don't like about you, or if you were just 11th place when they only wanted 10. Good luck.
