Springfield XDs 9mm bi-tone or FDE model?

    Hello,

As the title of this thread reads, if given the choice---which would you go for? A local gun shop found the hard-to-obtain new Flat Dark Earth (FDE) frame with the 3.3 inch barrel and will sell to me for $450 plus tax and DROS. Another gun shop said he can order for me the bitone (stainless steel slide finish) for the same price.

I haven't shot with gun but I have held the all black model and really liked the ergos, trigger and sleek look of the gun.

If given the choice, which of the two model finishes would you choose and why? Also, not to start a caliber war in this thread but I am firm on the 9mm round.

    Thanks!

As you probably already know, it's off roster. I'd probably get the stainless slide. I prefer the look. The fde version comes with a black, finished slide and may offer more corrosion or rust resistance especially if used as a ccw.

Thanks Joe. I'm LE and that's why I posted in the "Calguns LEOs" section of cal guns forum.

I like the look of the bitone slide finish as well. That's why I need help with swaying my decision one way over the other. Are XDs pistols black finish more prone to rusting than, say, an M&P Shield or the Glock tennifer finish?

I have two black XDs's and have no rust issues. I would go FDE just because I have never seen one in person.

I have the black and Bi Tone. Love them. Have order the FDE. Just need to go back home and fill out the paper work.

So I ended up purchasing the bitone. It's looks bad *** in person.

Still interested in the FDE . It may be a brief run for a limited time only.

Good purchase. The XDs is a great carry gun.

Two tone, I don't get the FDE thing.

Everything I've ever read reports that Glock's Tennifer finish and the XD's Melonite finish are one and the same or at least similar. You shouldn't have any problems with rust as a result.

Tho not an XDs, I have an earlier model of the XDSC 9mm that doesn't have that finish. Until I bought my Shield 9mm last year, I had carried the XD daily as my ccw once I retired from my dept. I once had a small rust spot where it made contact with my skin, but I wiped it off and it has never returned.

You will like the gun, both it's handling and feel. I still carry mine occasionally, but like the Shield for its pocket ability. As far as getting the FDE, if you like it and have the money, why not.
