If anyone (or you) has the problem differentiating between platforms they shouldn't do it. Some of us have never perceived it as a problem. The satisfaction of a job well done is to be the one who has done it

I agree with a lot of what you're trying to convey, but have carried different platforms on/off duty for years. Started out with 357 revolver / Sig p220 for off duty carry then went to Sig Sauer / Glock platforms for duty carry with j frame revolver for off duty for for the next 20+ years.
Now, with what little I know from nearly 3 decades of carrying a weapon for most hours of the day for a living, I would be more inclined to persuade a person to carry the same type of platform, not necessarily the same caliber, on / off duty. I've been in a high stress shooting incident and can say I didn't think much about the safety / holster draw etc... it was all muscle memory from years of proper training on the same non-safety platform weapon that carried the day (Sig P229). The Glock / Sig on-/ off-duty transition seems to be a no brainer to me, no matter the caliber difference. It Just makes things less complicated.
I have no experience transitioning to a back up weapon due to a primary weapon failure, but can only assume the response stresses would be much higher and a "similar" functioning weapon would be much more desirable to a firearm of a different platform.Comment

I would caution against hubris with regards to firearms handling. Adhere to the KISS mentality. Often times things aren't problems until they are.
The Sig P938 would be a good firearm for someone already carrying a 1911 or similar manual safety firearm.
If carrying a Glock/Sig/M&P, a Glock 43 would be an excellent choice. You have enough things to worry and think about in your daily duties. If you spend most of your time with one manual of arms, then your back up/off duty should be the same manual of arms. Good luck to everyone reading this.
I have also made it perfectly clear in my comments above..."If anyone (or you) has the problem differentiating between platforms they shouldn't do it". I'll continue to stand by that comment AND because I am not a victim of "Hubris", I'll continue to use different platforms for the situational needs of my CCW carry. All good, stay safe.Last edited by yzErnie; 08-27-2015, 11:31 AM.The satisfaction of a job well done is to be the one who has done it

There is nothing wrong with manual safety firearms.
What I don't think is a good idea is to carry firearms with different manual of arms. The average LE carries a striker fired handgun with no safety. I don't think it's a good idea for that officer to carry a firearm with a safety as their BUG or off duty piece.
BTW, I also know a lot of officers that still carry firearms with manual safeties. I know some that are actually going to the 1911 platform (I would not do that because of capacity issues) from striker fired duty guns.sigpicComment
