So...This being California...The land of wishful thinking when it comes to firearms... Let's have a wish list thread.
Question #1
If, today, your agency said you could carry, and the department would pay for any handgun in a traditional handgun caliber (let's say .22 up to .50AE...No traditional rifle calibers), but you have to pick RIGHT NOW, what handgun would you pick to carry?
My choice: Springfield Professional 1911.

If you were approached by a manufacturer and allowed to design a "signature" duty handgun using an existing design concept, what would it be? What requirements would you set, what features would you demand, and why? This isn't a "laser gun" concept, but taking existing technology and maximizing it...
My choice:
I had the opportunity to try an STI Tactical .45 and I really like some of the technology, but I'd prefer the following:
STI 2011-style polymer frame 9mm with 5" barrel. High cap magazines designed for around 18-20rounds but not based on competition requirements like current mags - designed around reliability - even if sacrificing a round or two. I really like my S&W E-series external extractor, so I'm ok with (and actually really like) an ex-ex if they can design it to work like S&W did. Plunger tube must be integral to the steel chassis frame like current STIs. It should come with a fitted single-side safety similar to the Wilson Combat Bullet-Proof tactical safety or a fitted ambi-safety (also Wilson BP) for lefties. Sights should be as follows: Rear sight must be durable protected adjustable serrated with horizontal bar tritium insert (kinda like the older MMC sights). Front sight should have tritium insert with white ring. I'm fine with Series 80-type safeties but I'm not a fan of the Swartz, so if they wanna pay royalties then fine, otherwise a titanium firing pin and extra power spring should do fine.
The polymer frame should have enough grip to ensure good purchase even when wet or oily, but not be so aggressive as to destroy clothing or forearms when carried in a holster. The firearm must have a rail for mounting a weapon-light.
On my ideal gun the trigger will be short to medium length and solid. The finish will be black or grey and can be a cerakote-type or melonite finish.
Basically my ideal duty gun is a reliable high-capacity 9mm 1911-style handgun.

I'm "that guy" who doesn't really care... Beretta Storm, Beretta 90-Two, Glock 17, 19, 20, 22, or maybe 18C (just to say I am carrying one...), HK; I just want it to shoot 9mm, 10mm, .40, or .45 and go "bang" when I pull the trigger. I want a light rail and a trigger with a pull between 4.5 and 6lbs for single action; trigger doesn't have to be perfect but must be consistent. Boring, I know...
