Bass Pro completely ruined Cabelas here in Boise.
Not sure I want one large retailer to gobble up another/reduce competition but I?m glad to hear it seems if anything it would be scheels buying BP. Cabelas is definitely not the better for having been purchased by BP

My family did like the BassPro in Cucamonga.
Never bought guns or ammo there.
But wife liked the big Isla Morada restaurant there.
They did have a big selection of boats.

Been watching the construction for awhile. Seems to be taking forever. Kind of an odd location for Scheels. Off the freeway a bit and behind other buildings. I'm looking forward to their opening. They carry a lot of higher end name brand products that are not found in a BPS. Was in the Sparks store last week.

Apparently they had planned on opening a Meridian store about 8-10 years ago and then nothing happened.

I'm no fan of BPS, but Johnny Morris buying Cabela's just saved the stores from being closed from the hostile investors that had forced a sale. IIRC the Elliot or Fisher Investment group of NY that buys about 10% of publicly traded companies and then forces the company to be sold off in pieces. They have successfully done this to many companies with several articles and news reports on the practice. One of the dangers to going public. Cabela's was recovering from the fallout of the '08 recession. Sales were down and they had borrowed to open stores prior to the crash. If left alone they would have recovered as the economy recovered.

When Bass Pro took over, the gun selection on Cabelas went way down and their choices narrowed considerably. It felt as if I was walking into a California gun store with depressing CA Roster and AWB limited models.

But, now they have an awesome fishing section.

BTW, have any of you free staters gone into a CA gun store since you left? Old handgun models you had some 20 years ago, revolvers from the 1980s, shotguns your father handed down?

We'd love to see a Scheels here in Tennessee, c'mon guys!

Bass Pro is a beautiful store, but I never buy anything there but a t-shirt and a bag of licorice or something.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

              Scheels opens new store...

For you expats, there?s also a Scheel?s opening up in Phoenix this Fall, at the Chandler Fashion Center, not far from Intel.

The Cabela?s in Glendale,AZ is still fun, but it is less lo after they started stocking the dreaded Red Head brand of clothing.

The Cabela?s in Buda, TX wasn?t that great either.

By far the best place for ammo.

Our Daughter and her family are still in California. Wife and I are in Sparks. They came for a visit. Grandson ( 7 year old) fell in love with Scheels. We were wandering the store and Daughter asked " are we in a mall now ?"
We have to go to Scheels every time they visit now.
And I agree Cantina La Tres Hombres is great,

Scheels is overpriced like Cabellas/Bass Pro

They have to be - with the massive overhead.

I praise the small brick & mortar... i never shop at the conglomerates, other than Sportsman's (rarely).

They opened a scheels around me somewhere recently (or are going to)... they seem to be expanding - which means high prices.

I've been to the one in Des Moines IA - over-priced glam.
