Having good clothing will help a lot, I recommend Arc'teryx. They offer different layers and types and I can't recommend them highly enough. Yes they cost a pretty penny but their are durable, comfortable to wear and very effective in cold/wet conditions.

It can be the difference between your wife wanting to return to CA after one winter, or her sticking it out.

Congratulations! Moving out of San Diego was a hard decision. Looking back I should have moved out 10 years sooner. Enjoy the freedom to buy whatever you want.

Congrats on your escape!

Selling off your guns prior to moving was a good call. I did the same and am very glad I did. It set me up with a nice little fund to rebuild the collection bigger and badder.

A quick google search shows that you can carry in Maine without a permit, so that takes care of that. The only thing I can suggest is to get started with your NFA stuff, like suppressors, ASAP. The current wait time for approval is still about 4+ months.
