Another great thing about moving

Huh - we had similar stomping grounds. I attended James Monroe in The Valley (no ROTC, no shooting range), but we did bring our shotguns to school so we could run up to Little Tujunga and hunt afterwards.

Also - spent many an afternoon tromping in and around San Fransicquito Canyon, Red Rover Mine Road, and the Templin Hwy area after quail and rabbit. I wonder if you can even hunt those places anymore, or if it is all sub-divisions no.

Went to Fairfax High in LA, grew up around Olympic & LaBrea, then 3rd & Crescent Heights, for some reason, most of the kids I met my age were from the valley, most of my childhood friends moved there in the 60"s when homes really started developing. I dated a gal at Monroe for awhile. Just about everything shooting related in that area was closed when I left in 5/18 except for a couple of private clubs and "A Place to Shoot" on San Fransicquito.

I guess it depends on how you define "Californians".

I was born in CA, so am a CA native. However - I am old enough to remember a very different CA, a CA that was not unlike what Idaho is today. I was just telling my brother yesterday that living here is like reliving my youth. Way back when, CA was a great place for me to grow up in. And now ID is a great place to grow old.

I remember making dueling pistols in my friend's garage. And getting up super early in the morning to go squirrel and rabbit hunting with my school buddies up in the hills west of the Silicon Valley. And I also remember wanting a scope on my rifle so I found a local gunsmith and then slung the rifle over my shoulder and bicycled the few miles to his garage shop.

Again, I grew up in the San Fernando Valley (like..... born in Encino, dude. For sure, totally). But, I remember one time needing a screw for my old SxS Savage 311. I was 16 at the time, and just took the shotgun into the local mom-and-pop hardware store to find a replacement. No big deal, and the old fella was very helpful fining me a workable replacement.

Interesting. I hear the locals speaking that way about how Garden City, Eagle, and Meridian used to be.

We kept all of our ammo in two extremely packed extra large job boxes that we forklifted onto a flatbed trailer I towed. The bed(with hard shell canopy) was filled with rifles, shotguns and handguns. I was happy we decided against AZ and TX because if I got stopped by Customs & Border Patrol, they’d want to know which Mexican cartel I was outfitting!

When I look through various articles and ads for all the weapons and accessories I knew I could never even dream about purchasing when in California.

Now it's definitely a kid in a candy store time for me.

FORE SURE!! I live in Las Vegas now, and I have alot of new cool stuff, especially suppressors for my rifles. I'm "over" Commiefornia"

I teach here in San Diego and I recall one tracher at a local high school (we were both pro gun) who told me that there was a day not long ago that there was an actual shooting team at the school. The kids would bring their rifles, lock them in a gun locker, then go out and actually shoot after school. Not air guns, not bows, but actual bullet shooting rifles.

Sadly gone are those days now.

My wife used to be a liberal Democrat, but I fixed that years and years ago. Now, both her and my daughter are redder than me - if that's even possible. When I moved here to ID, I brought three solid "forever" red votes with me.

I married an Idaho girl. Killed her first deer hunting with her Dad when she was 6 or 7. She retired this year after working in the legislature for 11 years...she had Republican senators as her boss over the years. She's redder than red.

Amen! I sold a bunch of off-roster stuff before we moved and used the money to buy no end of cool stuff in my new home.

Look real hard at setting up a trust for those cans. That way if you have friends or family you want to pass the cans to, either as a loan or a gift, It's a helluva lot easier to pass them to members of a trust.
Now I'll have to spend another $200 for each suppressor to put them in a trust that I should have done from the get go.

Yeah had to slow down on purchases, was way to quick and simple when I moved to New Mexico. However the Dumbacrat Governess up in Santa Fe pushed through the end of private sales, all transfers go through dealers now for NICS checks, no big deal yet as there is no waiting period and my FFL only charges 15 bucks period! Longest wait on NICS check was 40 min due to an issue on the NICS end, the shortest was 8 min and out the door!

Funny you should mention that about the ammo, because for a brief period I was contemplating selling it to my friends. The added weight cost on the move was about 1K$, but luckily I decided to bring it.

Retrospectively at todays prices I am so far ahead of that cost to ship that I'm glad I didn't sell. And yes as I tell other natives here. I vote so red I'll make them blush.

When we moved 3 years ago I had some 40+ cans of ammo. Movers wouldn't take it, realtor said "bite the bullet and just sell it". I decided to buy a flat hard top tonneau cover for the F 150, built a deck in the bed so I could double stack the ammo cans in the bed. Worked great, drove it it out to NM and had to leave the cans locked up in the bed until we got the "special" room in the garage secured. sure smoothed out the ride of the short box, 4x4 F150 kinda sorry I took it out

I took my Hunter Safety course at the Boeing facility in Burbank, at their indoor rifle range for employees. My Dad's friend was a machinist there, and I attended with his son. My best friend's dad shot for the Rocketdyne trap team up in Chatsworth.

Imagine that - company sponsored and funded shooting facilities and competition teams.
