Another great thing about moving

When I look through various articles and ads for all the weapons and accessories I knew I could never even dream about purchasing when in California.

Now it's definitely a kid in a candy store time for me.

I was at the Marsing, Idaho gun show yesterday, which sort of sucked.

However, overhearing two new Idaho shooters who came from Cali made my day. They were grateful and excited about exercising their rights in their new home.

It underscores our need for vigilance in protecting our rights. IMO, the best way to do this is to welcome new shooters into our 2A community whenever possible. I'm going to make an extra effort to do so whenever I can.

Refrain from getting into a new chambering you haven’t stocked up on. Or at least accept the fact that you won’t shoot it much. I bought an SMG45 while the wife was constantly on my case for always buying ammo, so I didn’t have much in .45 ACP.

You did bring your ammo when you moved, right?

One more thing. Stop voting for anything that sounds remotely PC while you were in CA. You’ll be shooting yourself in the foot.

Funny you should mention that about the ammo, because for a brief period I was contemplating selling it to my friends. The added weight cost on the move was about 1K$, but luckily I decided to bring it.

Retrospectively at todays prices I am so far ahead of that cost to ship that I'm glad I didn't sell. And yes as I tell other natives here. I vote so red I'll make them blush.

I didn't leave so much as a scrap of brass behind.

I guess it depends on how you define "Californians".

I was born in CA, so am a CA native. However - I am old enough to remember a very different CA, a CA that was not unlike what Idaho is today. I was just telling my brother yesterday that living here is like reliving my youth. Way back when, CA was a great place for me to grow up in. And now ID is a great place to grow old.

My wife used to be a liberal Democrat, but I fixed that years and years ago. Now, both her and my daughter are redder than me - if that's even possible. When I moved here to ID, I brought three solid "forever" red votes with me.

I've always been lucky with my wife and Son. They've always been red even with my wife being a high school teacher. She was one of many in her old district believe it or not.

It was about 50/50 where she used to teach. I think mainly because of the close proximity of a military base.

Very true.....I remember the good old days when you could actually shoot a rifle outdoors in the San Fernando Valley....also the many ranges in the Valencia area that were shut down after the area started developing. Heck, my high-school had a ROTC program with an indoor .22 range under the football enclosed football seats.

Huh - we had similar stomping grounds. I attended James Monroe in The Valley (no ROTC, no shooting range), but we did bring our shotguns to school so we could run up to Little Tujunga and hunt afterwards.

Also - spent many an afternoon tromping in and around San Fransicquito Canyon, Red Rover Mine Road, and the Templin Hwy area after quail and rabbit. I wonder if you can even hunt those places anymore, or if it is all sub-divisions no.

I'm old enough to remember those days as well. Sad what it's become.
