Guard 11B is lame. well Guard anything is lame training wise. Go active if you wanna do cool stuff. The guard will be an endless safety briefing and hip pocket training in a parking lot somewhere. Youve been warned.

one thing about the guard is promotions they are hard to come by as slots aren't available as they are in active or reserve.http://govnews.ca.gov/gov39mail/mail.php

/thread.
You can be a scout as an 11B, but not vice versa. What's more many 11B are mechanized or motorized. They used to be called 11H but that wad a while ago. So you have the chance of humping or riding around in brads or strykers. I know many 11B badly 25mm gunners.
Or, you could really step up and be 11C.Comment

Join 19th SFG (A) as something in the intel field. Get you MOS, Airborne school and TS clearance while there. You will have to anyways just to say in the unit. See what Special Operations has to offer. If you still want the 11B thing, go to selection (SFAS) and become a 18B. 11B in the guard blows. No money, lame training and no mission. 19th has money to train and for schools, a continuing real world mission and did I say money to train and for schools? If you are going to run with the guard, run with the best.Comment

I think you need prior service again now that the war is"slowing down" according to the Company A 5/19th page.Join 19th SFG (A) as something in the intel field. but i would look into it, i jsut wonder how hard it would be to go NG for a few years then try and get a slot at SFAS being as NG guy.Comment

19th has the REC (readiness enhancement company) that's sole purpose is to train you up and get you ready for SFAS. Once you meet all their requirements, then its off to SFAS you go. But as I said above...Get in group. Get a MOS that will help you on in civilian life. Get your airborne school out of the way. Get your TS........Sooo if you fail out of SFAS you still come back to SOF. Rock a deployment or two with SOF and then decide if you want to go 11B. SOF support is better than NG 11B. Be advised, you may have to travel to UT to get a slot.
But have a plan. Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency. (PACE) Continually ask yourself, If this happens then what....? If this doesn't happen then what...?Comment

How true that is. Those that went in as high speed EOD guys, but failed out of EOD ended up as 35 series because the Army didn't want to waste the investment in the TS clearance. Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.Comment

I have never commented in this forum but I will give you some insight on the realities of the fiscally constrained environment we will enter once sequestration hits.
Maintaing wheeled and tracked vehicles is very expensive so you can expect realistic training as you would fight in the 19D field is going to be significantly impacted with both active and national guard units. Comparitivly speaking infantry training is relatively cheap. All the other hooah stuff has been said already other than if you do go into combat as a 11B you may earn a CIB on the other hand a 19D in combat you get a CAB like all the rest of the support elements.

the budget is going be bad. I work in an ECS shop and parts are hard to come by. our ability to get parts from time to time gets shut off. I expect this year to worse than the last 10 years I have worked in the ECS.I have never commented in this forum but I will give you some insight on the realities of the fiscally constrained environment we will enter once sequestration hits.

Pretty much. Sounds like 99 % of UTA or drill weekends. Except when you do AT, or goto the range to qualify. When you get outside the armory or off base and actually do a convoy to Camp SLO or Roberts. Usually Nobody files a SUTA or misses drill. Everyone on the roster mysteriously shows up.

I dont care who you are, thats funny as hell right there!
Same here. When I deployed I never once left the base (Fobet reporting in) but we still got mortared all the time. I dont pretend what I did was as scary as what ground pounders did, no question their job was harder. But we all had a part to play and Im proud of what I did. Even though my contributions were almost entirely rendered useless by a braindead chain of command when we came home.Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail. Honestly, if you are in shape and can hold a secrete security clearance I would say go for 13F, maintain all of the above and get your SSDs and leadership schools done ASAP you will get every rank in the bare minimum of time needed. I reclassed to 13F and picked up my 6 the next promotion cycle, then picked up my 7 as soon as I had time in grade. We are hurting, I have three other NCOs in my platoon, an E6 and two E5s acting as Squad leaders, no team leaders, hopefully a few of my guys pick up their 5s this year, the other platoon is even worse off, 1 E7 and 2 E5s. We have two platoons of 13F at my armory, we really have enough men for one, and even then I don't think we would have enough.
What keeps a lot of guys from getting promoted is failure to pass the APFT and even more so, is the SSDs and the WLC/ALC/SLC, they just don't get them done, and here I am hoping to get to SLC next summer and will knock out SSD 4 as soon as it becomes available to me, I wouldn't be surprised to make my 8 as soon as I meet time in grade, we are that short in MOS Qed people.Last edited by rero360; 01-20-2015, 7:11 PM.
