    Nat Guard 11B or 19D

So, ive narrowed down bet ween 11B vs 19D for the chosen field

my little brother is 11B and of course gave me the scoop on how 19D are gay yada yada yada, based off whats onlineand off theater operations 19D seem to be put in as a leg infantry for the most part, but are stuck to more mundane stuff when on base( vehicle service etc) while grunts dont worry about that stuff much.

    anyways

whats the difference in weapons training/range time etc.

just looking for answers from people on both sides of the fence on what is the daily routine( id assume it slowed way down with the AFG draw down for both 11B and 19D) national guard.

thanks for your help, im at work so if i dont make to much sense i apologize as im typing rather quickly.

Hi Riley, I think you may have sent this to the incorrect person? I'm in the Navy and I'm unfamiliar with the National Guard MOS.

Guard range time is very limited for all MOS's maybe twice a year if your lucky. Expect to spend a lot of time sitting around a drill hall.

And that would be being briefed on sexual harassment and suicide prevention.

Imagine all that job/work related political correctness training one gets in their regular job, and potentially what all the active duty guys have to deal with.

Now, realize we reservists and guard have to do that same stuff, and yep, that pretty much takes up all our drill time.

Scouts are typically much smaller units so you have a lot more flexibility. Far fewer people means things get done faster, so you have more time to "do stuff". BUT. There is going to be a lot riding on what type of unit you are assigned to. For example, the whole "vehicle maintenance" thing applies to 11B and 19D if you're not "light" infantry (meaning no vehicles).
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

There are two jobs in the Army: Infantry, and Infantry support. If you're going to play ball, you might as well be on the Varsity team.

I was a light Infantry Scout (think LRRPs, but not as cool) for 6 years and since 2010 I have been a Forward observer in support of a CAV unit.

Personally, I would take Infantry over CAV any day, for a number of reasons, big ones for me is the blue cord and the chance at earning the EIB/CIB. My old battalion tested for the EIB, only one guy earned it, had a few that came close, one who made it within 50 yards of the finish of the ruck march and collapsed, kidneys or something shut down on him, I think he was in his late 30s at the time.

My job in the Army Reserve was as non-combat arms as it gets. However, I say congratulations to you if you enlist, whatever you end up doing. I was proud to have served and enjoyed my time in while doing my small part.

After listening to NG buddies after graduation, you will either hate it or love it as NG, and they either regretted choosing NG instead of active duty, or enjoyed the perks of being a weekend soldier. Most seemed to regret it. If you want to have the name of 11B, and not deal with the bull**** of 11B on a daily basis, then NG is for you. It's more of like selective bull****. Garrison life sucks, but it is the large part of being active. And it is certainly an experience, just like OSUT / BCT.

NG sounds nice though, you get to deploy almost as regularly without garrison bs.

11B don't have much vehicle stuff.. meet at the motor pool once every week for PMCS (preventative maintenance checks and services), which is the most basic stuff you can imagine.. 25% of us were sent to driver course in active duty, just for kicks. The course is insanely easy. Not sure if NG does this kind of stuff.

The infantry is like a frat, not going to lie. Most will agree.

That being said, you might want to reconsider MOS choice. Something to put on your resume. Unless you want to put "Infantry skills, grunt life, and all types of ill sh*t" on your resume. You can do your 3, maybe even be a contractor for good dime.

Good luck and I hope you make the right decisions. Thank you for your choice to serve.

                      thanks for all the replies,

how is NG pay based off if your married and such, or is it a flat rate when you enlist regardless of being married? my concern is the bills are paid while im away at basic.

                      any ideas?

If you go NG or Reserve you will get your Grade Base Pay WITH half the average BAH for the country while you are in BCT and AIT.

Now I wasn't told this and got broadsided at Basic. So I had to scramble while in Reception calling on a pay phone to my bank to fax the Reception Finance Office my proof of a Mortgage.

So have WITH YOU ON HAND a copy of your lease agreement or mortgage when you hit Reception. If you are married with kids you need to bring the kids SSN's, and kids birth certificates, marriage license (her SSN). I'm probably leaving something out so ask the recruiter.

That's one of the perks. Active Duty guys don't get BAH while in TRADOC. It's not 100% BAH, you only get half, but it was like an additional $700 for me.

Now, when you drill on weekends you get a few hundred bucks. You only get the daily pay at your salary grade which will NOT include BAH.

Also, as another perk, while deployed everyone from my unit got BAH regardless if they had a lease or mortgage or not. At least I wasn't asked to prove my mortgage status.

So those reserve/NG Jr. Enlisted are raking it in relative to their Active Peers who don't get it because they are restricted to Barracks back home.

if his orders are over 30 days he should get full BAH. less than 20 days it's BAH2. I was at BNCOC for 45 days and received full BAH for the full 30 days and less of course for the 15 days remaining.
