If you were on probation, then you were convicted... it may have been expunged later, but the government sees all and don't care about expungement. That being said, I personally work with a guy who had a felony arrest/misdemeanor conviction in 2004... got his Secret clearance around the same time as me in 2012, and was upgraded to TS/SCI earlier this year.

I was never convicted as a minor I was given the option to serve some community service and be on probation for a couple months and after completion all charges were dropped. I have probation letters from the court saying I was never convicted. Going to try and see if the recruiter can call someone and see if he can do anything.

It's going to be a rough time to join the military right now unless you're very gifted or intelligent in some high demand field man. If you had a really good Navy recruiter, he would have told you to not talk about any of those past events lmao...

If you have no conviction I don't see the issue. During the surge in Afghanistan the army was taking in people off the street 38 minimum ASVAB prison convicts lol

This is just the army that I have talked to I think I'm going to branch off and talk to AF and navy.

I took everyone's advice and talked to them about going active and they said I pretty much had the same opportunity as the reserves there were the same openings but I could also go infantry or cav scouts.... They say this my charges I can't get any secret squirrel jobs right out the gate but I can always "switch" later. I wanted to do 37f and do sweet ****

Any other jobs that I should look at in other branches? Feel like if the army will limit me the AF will really limit me since a lot of there stuff is intel and technology.

How are 25b networking guys in the army? That was the best thing that was offered that would translate Into the real world.

This is the part where you don't trust your recruiter.

              ^ Yup!

The Army recruiters told me I couldn't get a Secret required to be a 15W because of a 4 year-old speeding ticket... then tried to get me to go EOD, which requires a TS w/Presidential Support Eligibility and PRP clearance.

If you're looking to do secret squirrel stuff, talk to the Navy or AF... Navy has several Cryptologic Technician ratings that cover hackers to linguists to SIGINT/ELINT specialists. There's also the Intelligence Specialist rating... as well as the Sonar Technician ratings (Surface or Submarine) which deal with Anti-Submarine Warfare... or my rate, Naval Aircrewman (Operator), which deals with Secret to SCI programs related to Anti-Submarine Warfare, Anti-Surface Warfare, and Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) work.

Air Force also has a selection of Intel jobs, but I'm not as familiar with the options... when I spoke to the AF recruiter back in 2011, they weren't offering guaranteed AFSC's in your contract... only semi-open contracts where you could pick a community and be assigned a specific job within that community later on. I went Navy because they guaranteed me a job flying before I put pen to paper and raised my right hand.

Lol yes I have taken everything they said very lightly. I know the whole you can change it later speech. But it seems like a lot of oeople who were reserves seems to have several mos's.

I'm leaning more onwards active now but no jobs were "open" to me

Psyops was what I wanted to do after talk to my recruiter about it. I would deal with some intel while being with the door kickers.

Seems like I had a good score on asvab and high line scores I feel like I can get better jobs then what are offered to me.

Lots of good advice given here....17yrs Army Guard, went back in, but went Air force...Army kept dickin me around for a year....talked to an AF recruiter and was sworn 30days from the first meet and greet.

Lots of Rifs going on in all services right now...medical, PT, non-progression...unless we get back into another war like Iraq, and the authorized manning levels are increased, it's going to continue and ALL services can be picky. Back in the Gulf war days, some real pieces of work were allowed to enlist..standards were lowered considerably, at least on there army side.

When it's the way it is right now, you may have to take what you can get just to get your foot in the door....if anything, find an MOS,AFSC.etc that has a signing Bonus...at least you will get paid well.

When I went back in, I needed 2 waivers....which was BS anyway, I won't bore you with those details....but the army just dragged and dragged on the waivers...air force had them done within hours...I **** you not.

I'm happy in AF...should pin my MSgt in a few months...and coming up on 20yrs in Jan 2015.

Now go start your Military career....

                          .
Since then too.... When I joined there were several people that were already shot in gang fights, inked with gang signs, felons, arsonists. Hell one guy had to take leave to go back home for his arson court date for lighting a school on fire prior to enlistment.

When they need bodies, they aren't too picky all of a sudden.

Join the Air Force if you never want to be promoted lol. If you want to be kicking in doors DON'T join the Air Force. They really don't do much stuff like that. Chairforce personnel will try to tell you otherwise and all their videos show the 0.01% of Air Force that does anything tactical.

PSYOPS is a type of operation, not an MOS. If you want some cool tactical Intel, go 3912/3913 NEC Intelligence Specialist in the Navy or 35M Army, or Marine Corps Intel
