They were after my time but I have several friends that had their sons meet them in Hawaii and ride the ship back.

My step dad has first dibs on it, I'm 2nd in line for it since I have the time and money to do it. I was thinking of doing first class to Hawaii, double the money for the flight but I wouldn't be elbow to elbow. I got a bad back too, so I need the extra room.

We had one where they allowed male dependents/relatives (8+ years old) to ride the submarine I was on from Charleston, S.C. to Fort Lauderdale, FL over three days.

I stood watch for 48 of the 72 hours for friends who had relatives aboard and they trade me liberty time in Fort Lauderdale.

If you have a bad back then I would stay away unless you riding a big deck.

It's not that bad, it's sitting for long periods which causes low back pains.

Back in the early 80's I went on a Tiger Cruise on the USS Ranger from Hawaii to San Diego.
It's an experience you will not forget, if you have the chance do it.

I got to sit in the cockpit of an F14 Tomcat, always one of my favorite fighters since my dad work on the design team.
I also got yelled at for asking 'What does this red button do?'

Bunch ships named in the email, not sure which one he's on. What's 13th MEU?

                    Maybe the USS boxer.

If you have never been on a ship it's cool. The cruise are more for kids/teens, they thrown ice socials n movie night. If you're an adult it get old really quick. Maybe if you're luck they will have events planned where they do live fire exercises and sea, land exercises.

When I went on old school LSD ship they shot 16" cannon, cweez and the rest of big boy toys. Watched lcacs and other ship enter a leave the hull of the ship.

Was worth it in my eyes but I didn't pay for it my dad the chief did

I sponsored both of my parents and my best friend on 3 different ships - all 3 said they would to it again if the had the opportunity. The bigger the ship, the more to see and do, but my Mom had a blast on the Destroyer.

I got plenty of Audible books if I get bored. Biggest boat I ever been on was a 80 foot fishing boat we charter out once a year.

I'm only 10 years old then him, he'll have his 21th while still out there.

Bigger ships definitely have more to see. Smaller ships you get a more detailed look at how everything operates.

Hawaii to SD is about a 4 day transit

It may be boring to some, but makes you appreciate the crew that lives there anywhere from 6-9 months straight
