VA compensation claim.... What the hell ??

It's been stuck at the "review" stage for 5 months. I looked online and it says it's requesting evidence from me. I sent in that evidence 7 months ago. What the hell is going on?

It's the VA....if you don't become a thorn in their side, nothing will happen.

My mother and step-father fought with the VA for a claim for years. It's a tragedy how our Government treats our veterans.

The only advice I can give is don't give up. If you don't get the answer you need, escalate the issue. Give them every shred of documentation you have pertaining to your issue. Good luck.

My wife fought for years, they always one thing after another, she joined the DAV and had them take over, in a few months all was done, no more hassles.

          DAV is well worth it.

It took my dad 18 months to get his done, he said you get back payed from the day you file. Problem was he didn't file til almost 30 years after he got out. I should've but never did, probably kick myself later but I figured there's alot of guys with more issues than me.

I went to DAV I went to VFW my claim sat in limbo for months. Went to Va office which both DAV and VFW cautioned against. They said since I was under 1 year from my claim letter I could simply refile and get back paid. I did that 2 month later 18K showed up in my account.
They suggested only give them what is needed. I first threw the whole kitchen sink in my claim. Sleep apnea---only the diagnosis and the receipt that I was issued a cpap.

Bummer , seems like nothing has changed down at the VA.....
I'm not a Veteran , But do know the VA well , I had to deal with the Va until the day my dad died ,I Still deal with them on occasions for my mother .

Do you have a Counselor ? I usually go down to the Federal building at the DAV, The Counselors have been pleasantly helpful ... Good luck to you ..

I am in final review. I call every Friday and check to make sure nothing new has popped up for me to do.

Keep on it, the VA is horrible at claims which is why I went to VVA and had them file my claim for me. They are very pleasant people and are truly concerned with your well being and seeing that your claim gets processes in a timely manner. All together by claim took about 6months which I hear is fast compared to doing it through the VA hospital.

It took 16 months for mine to go through. And I got the final papers while the automated system said it was still in review. Just hang in there and keep calling, writing, and banging you head up against their door. As already mentioned, DAV and VFW may be able to help you out as well.

I am going on about 28 months now but I did move a year ago. They said it had to be transferred to another dept. because of that. Got another letter Friday that they were still reviewing my case.
My thing is, with a 70% rating as it, there are too many much healthier/younger applicants for me to compete against for the few jobs that are out there. This is the reason I am trying for unemployable status. I was rejected twice on a % increase claim and advised to try for the unemployable status.
All I can advise is what I am doing. Stay patient but stay on their butts. If you are rejected/turned down, file again ASAP. Keep going to your Dr. apts and have the records sent to the VA. Every other month or so I call if I haven't gotten an updated letter for a while, although I do get the letters every three months or so.
Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. But it does no good to get loud with the people on the phone, it's not their fault.
Good luck, hope it turns out well for you.
                              Thank you for your service!
