My favorite c-rations were fruit cocktail and pound cake. That was back in the early 60's.

The dehydrated fruit in the old MREs were pretty good with or without adding water.

Sounds like a few of you guys found out about the "Baghdad Belly" firsthand lol, a couple of guys in my unit ate those damn chickens and they didn't have a solid for 2 months. I loved the kabobs, never got sick...

2003 Mosul and Qwest FTW! lol
we ate the chicken everyday in kharma. we would send the translators to grab our chow. whole entire company was combat ineffective for a few weeks. we had to pretty much stand guard at the school house while doing super short patrols. i along with quite a few others still have problems going right.

Yeah I found the best kabobs were made at the Tal-Afar Air field, we were running a fuel mission there and one of the locals had some great kabobs, i still remember it came with some vegetables and that sauce, kinda like sweet and sour if i remember correctly.

Do you know what their bread/tortilla thing is called. I've been craving those when I eat chicken.

Naan(Pashtu)/Doordi(Dari) you can get it in most grocery stores but good luck getting it as good as it was in country. They know how to make that **** right.

There are a few Afghan restaurants in Fremont (Bay Area) that serve pretty good Afghan food.

Yea, it was kind of like a peach cracker.

I remeber the dehydrated sausage patties. They had good flavor and a nice crunch if you ate them like a meat cracker and then drank the water. They had horrible consistancy if you rehydrated them beforehand.

In the Army they complain about that. In the Marine Corps that chow would be gourmet.
