can we "trade" MREs
Tags: None -
Do you mean like trade a box of MRE's for a Ipod or something? That seems like a bad idea to me.Comment

Huh?
1) when in BCT we traded all the time with other MRE's
2) when in AIT we couldn't have them in our rooms (I suspect for the hazmat hazard of the heating unit).
Outside of BCT no one really cared because we could pretty much eat whatever we wanted.
While in BCT we couldn't have anything (especially food), so the only time we could "trade" anything was while we were eating them with Drill SGTs watching over us.Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.Comment

lol remeber the tainted strawberry milk shakes and how the had m&ms crispy...they dont make those anymore!Comment

How and why do you have ~8 cases of MREs?Comment
-
He Probly collects them just like I used to, Anyways, Your good to go for the trading with civi's as long as u are definitely not making any profit what so ever and if you do dont go blabbin about it. There is nothing I hate more than going to a gun show and seeing OUR MREs Being SOLD for almost 20 bucks a meal!!! And it specifically states US GOV'T. Property not for resale. Dam Civi's!"All gave some and Some gave all"

Technically, no.
You're still exchanging government property for something else and keeping it. No different than if you "traded" if for money.
You're supposed to turn the MRE in if you don't eat it.
Keeping them isn't a big deal because you might eat them at some point but trading them for a TV, even if it is an equal trade, isn't going to fly.
Now, the only time I've ever seen this be a problem is if somebody is stealing cases of MREs and selling them to surplus stores or the like. You might get chewed out if your chain catches you actually SELLING some (maybe NJP if it's really blatant) , but CID isn't going to kick in your door, and nobody is going to care if you throw a few you were issued but didn't eat into your truck for emergencies.
ETA: If you're an MP you're held to a much higher standard, as you should be. If you get caught selling or trading government property you'll almost certainly get NJPed and may lose your MOS. Not hardly worth the risk.
Turn them in to your supply room. That's all you can do.im getting yelled at by my gen. at home you all know who that is.Last edited by tanksoldier; 07-08-2012, 6:06 PM."I am a Soldier. I fight were I'm told and I win where I fight." GEN George S. Patton, Jr.Comment

How is it gov property after they give it to you! We would rat **** the hell out of them and even throw whole mre's away (mushrooms and beef) all the time. I know plenty of people that would sell their mre's to people because they were left over. And command would even know because they were trying to get rid of the remaining cases or left over meals after a field op and were always glad someone took them. In Iraq we gave the crap chow to the little kids out their so we could watch them fight over it.Last edited by steelrain82; 07-08-2012, 7:43 PM.Comment
