I walked out of a chow hall in Camp Henry with two soldier's weapons. For some reason leaving your rifle on the deck is acceptable when you want to go for seconds.

I think some "remedial PT" would be in order as well, say replace their rifles with sections of tow bar, and have them do D and C with it, port arms and present arms for a few minutes each would get the sweat flowing and those muscles shaking. Simply having them lug it around all day in place of a rifle is sure to drive home the message thru both the shear physical demand but also the embarrassment and shame.

I saw a mechanic carrying a 3/4" piece of steel plate cut out to look like an m4 weighed a solid 20 pounds if not more.

That is where you are failing. Maybe you should step up to the plate, show some initiative, and take charge of the problem.

Good Lord! MY BCT/ AIT didnt have any NDs!!!! Its not that Fking hard! Where im stationed at now we are all amber and those of us with M9s are red because we can! Too much Green on blue incidences goin on out here!

Although with that said, the individuals from P.R. I deployed to with had the worse weapons handling skills ever, NDs leaving weapons laying around/ behind. Now maybe they were the rejects of the Island, but they left an awful bad taste in my mouth for Puerto Ricans, to this day I don't know how we made it thru a year in Baghdad during the surge without any fatalities.

Depends on your branch and status. We had a makeshift pool built in camp devildog, Bagram AB (still visible from google earth), and our last week there we had a couple of parties. All the local AF girls were invited, as well as a few Army NG females. Some brought guys with them, and several left their rifles on the patio by our waterhole.

Our armorer (a stop-lossed corporal who should have EAS'ed right after our first extension) was a surly guy who like to disassemble m16s and throw them in the pool.


About NDs, roughly the same time in bagram, we had a soldier who "accidentally" opened the breech, "accidentally" loaded a HEI grenade into his 203, "accidentally" slung it muzzle up (we were condition 3 muzzle down basewide), "accidentally" disengaged the safeties, then "accidentally" fired a 40mm straight up. It came down and destroyed a conex box by the px on disney drive. The conex was full of copenhagen and pepsi. You can imagine the hate and discontent that ensued, not to mention the fact that we were stuck with kodiak and warm diet cokes.

it was always the reservists and guardsmen, too. though, i do recall a captain who cleared his m9 in the chowhall by dropping the mag and squeezing the trigger while pointing at the thigh of the person in line ahead of him.

I heard bagram has been all kinds of upgraded since '03.

Wow. Just wow. Tango78 hit the nail in the head. Those platoon sergeants sound like super turds. They should be at the cleaning barrel tearing up new holes on all retards that do not know how to read posted instructions. I mean, you guys do have posted instructions at all clearing barrels correct?

Most of us here have multiple deployments, and weapon handling techniques are second nature. But to see so many failures during training, and thinking that Article 15s are the solution show laziness on the command that is pathetic.

NOPE. Never had one. Never needed one, and will likley never apply for one. As pointed out in the posts, people are (in general) painfully stupid and careless. This episode only goes to underscore why those in power don't want the unwashed masses walking around with firearms every day.

during my ftx a couple guys were walking around with their selctor on fire. the whole platoon got their rifles taken away and were rearmed with m stickteens, m20 tree grenade launchers and cc oak optics. my friend was in that platoon and was told to find a larger stick that more accurately represented the m240 that he was issued. that was funny.
it is suprising how many military people dont take their weapon seriously, i mean it is the main tool we use to kill people. even in the infantry there are a lot of guys who are careless about their weapons. lol.

Alrighty story time: Coming in from a long day moving from fob to fob we have a Singe MAT-V infront of us entering the ECP.....So I get out to clear my weapon, which I dont go red unless I dismount while out the wire, There was an Airforce Capt. and An Army LtCol. clearing as well; they were inside the MAT-V ahead of us.... So I do my procedures and am waiting for these guys ahead of us to finish because our post rules are all tactical vehicles must have a ground guide So,
I watch this AirForce guy pull the charging handle (M4)and lock the bolt to the rear, he observes his camber and then Back Slings his weapon to then clear his M9...(mind you i didnt know he was an officer but fk it!) I look at his M4 on his back and I say "Whoa Hi-Speed your weapons on fire!" I then realize his bolt is still locked to the rear and magazine in....AirForce Capt, "Whats Wrong?" Me, "You got your fkn weapon on fire, bolt to the rear, and your magazine is in!" As im saying this Im squaring him away and drop the mag, let the bolt forward, and put the darn thing on safe....AirForce Capt, "Thats how your supposed to have it!" before I can respond with a smart a** remark his LtCol buddy comes up, LtCol, "Hey Sgt do you know where the MWR is?" and when I go to answer the Col the AF Capt says "Thanks for sqaring me away, SGT!" in an angry, how dare you kind of gesture and tone.....and the answer for the Col was there isnt one on this post sir...

So main point on this was Through pre-mob we had 1 ND with a blank and it just happened to be the same guy that had a real ND in kuwait at S-POD in the DFAC in OIF 2008....And the AirForce ND rate for Pre-mob and blanks was at least one a day, The dumbas*es couldnt figure out that you drop the mag first!!! And my main key point Ive been making lately cause at my post we've had 3 officers ND, 2 unintentional, 1 intentional....Now I know an intentional nd isnt an nd but i didnt make the rules, thats what the MPs posted about the incident..... So any ways 2 officers, 1 nd her pistol in the DFAC and the other nd his rifle in the dfac a seperate day and the 3rd tried to kill himself.....

My theory for preventing stupid officers from possibly hurting other hard working soldiers that are squared away, Take the weapons away from officers, especially those that work in an office all day!
