Just an update guys I received an email from my regional XO telling me I have been selected for NROTC Scholarship, Marine Option. They will tell me what college I report to in a letter in a few weeks but if I'm not mistaken I believe that will set my OCS date for Summer of 2014! And @ARgirl, I know of a lot of gals in the NROTC program. I have a friend who is at the Naval Academy as well and she is planning on going Marines. They like having girls apply cuz I think there are only like 15% or some small number of women officers.

It's tough right now. Not many vacancies and I'm hearing rumors about more RIFs and "Force Shaping". Maybe the other services are different, but...

I'll throw in my two cents. If you have a family history of heart issues go get a full work up done by a family physician prior to doing anything Officer related.
I didn't and it bit me in the butt, I went for my commission, did all the paperwork and had a school slot scheduled for the 9 week shake and bake OCS, was going to go Armor, Artillery or Infantry. However during the precommissioning physical it was discovered that I had a heart defect, listed in the regs by name as a disqualifying condition. So I went to the VA and had surgery last spring to have it corrected.
Now if I decide if I want to still become an Officer I have to wait a year and a half (two years from surgery or from last sign of symptoms) before I can reapply.
Maybe I'll go Warrant instead.

Sorry to hear about that SSG! I have a lot of soldiers that are lower enlisted and have the Im sick of people tellin me what to do attitude, so One in particular wants to go to OCS, I told him to at least become an NCO before wanting to jump on to the command wagon! Especially all these civilian college kids going straight to OCS with no experience on the enlisted side. I wish it would be mandatory all service members go enlisted service and then Commision once certain standards are met. Im sick of Incompetent college kids that think they know everything (Butter bars and 1st LTs) shootin down my SSG's and PSG when they give mission oriented suggestions of previous combat COMBAT DEPLOYMENTS Experience.... Ventin just a little but All of you that want to go to OCS make Corporal at least and if your not in a CA unit then dedicate yourself to making that E-5! Ive been a 5 for a while and cant wait to get that 6! But thats just my 2 cents....Take it as you will but we are in a business of WAR. This isn't call of duty nor any other Video game, Movie, or TV Show. You deal with making decisions on the outcomes of either your soldiers lives as well as that of the local populace depending on where you are stationed! As always Rangers Lead the Way, NCO's will always Lead from the Front!I'll throw in my two cents. If you have a family history of heart issues go get a full work up done by a family physician prior to doing anything Officer related.

Found out I'll be at the University of San Diego on a NROTC scholarship with Marine OCS in Summer of 2014. Looks like things are starting to work out! Good luck to everyone else who's still waiting to hear about their situations!Last edited by Kauf; 08-02-2012, 9:23 AM.WTB M2 Ball .30-06Comment
