How to voluntary separate?

Please don't advocate this as a reason to seperate if it doesn't apply; you will be only taking away from the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines who actually need the medical attention and support.

OP, We all have times when we as Servicement and women get tired of the BS that is shoveled our way, but do yourself and your Country a favor and finish strong, you are almost at the finish line.

I assumed it was PTSD that was causing his inability to continue. I arrived at this assumption because anyone that's done 15+ years in the service would have grown tired of any BS well before 15 years. Anyone who has re-uped that many times obviously has a sense of commitment. I read between the lines and realise there must be something else going on besides he just got tired of the military.

Well, he's Guard so his retirement won't kick in until 65.

If you can't handle the "military" of the Air Force, and the "rough" Air Force deployments...

Used to be in the Guard you could just stop showing up for drill. You'd get dropped eventually. Technically they can NJP you, but they have to bring you on active duty to do it which is almost always more money and trouble than it is worth.

You can also request a transfer to the IRR. Make up an excuse about your job or moving away from your unit.

Personally I'd suggest you grow a set of balls and tough it out. You're in the AF, so they don't have to be very big...

The Iraqi dinar is not a scam; it is an investment. I can easily sell my dinar for twice what I spent on it right now. How many people with investments can say that?

Request to go IRR, the CO will give it to you with good cause, maybe it is as simple as saying you want to go. Get drill points in the IRR to have a good year by taking schools online. You can always hop back into a unit elsewhere at another time.

When I had 16 years in I got sent to Bosnia and it sucked. Surprised I did not hit an LTC and end up in Levenworth. Time went by and next thing you know I have 20 years, then 30, then I don't want to go so I am laying so very low right now.

You are at a hard part. Yes there is total BS going on I know. But you WILL look back and wish you had kept pushing ahead. As we say in the Army - You don't have to like it, you just have to do it.

Maybe you can reclass to another MOS. Something. Anything. Anything to get that 20, then all your problems will seem to vanish.

Remember the health care too. That's worth staying for 20 right there.

well since the OP is banned he cannot answer this. i have been in for 23 + yrs now. yes it sucks and it is tough but getting out now and not retiring is a waste. but to each their own but i will suggest that you end your career the right way and get orders that separate you just don't show up that will royally screw you in ways that you do not want.

take my suggestion for what it is worth i have seen many Soldiers screw themselves after 6 yrs and stop coming than those that took my advice and waited to get orders of separation. then and only then are you out.

good luck to you and i still suggest you stick it out. i know what it feels like and i want to retire and enjoy the freedoms that so many enjoy that i do not.

you may not regret it now but in the future you may regret it. health care and the retirement you get from the Guard even at 60 is better than relying on Social Security that IMO won't be there for you. yes you have to wait until you are 60 but it's worth the wait. it is the only reason i have put in more than my 20 years.

David, I know how you are feeling, I've been there and am currently struggling with the desicion of to reenlist again to get my 20 or bow out next year with 13 years. If you can, talk with people, chaplins, your commander, 1sg, others Joe's, your family, ultimately its your choice, maybe try for a year of irr to take a break and just get everything back to normal, I've thought about it plenty of times.

I know you are doing a tough job over there and I thank you for it from the bottom of my heart, if you need help, please seek it out. Hit me up when you get back stateside and I'll buy you a beer or two, from one vet to another.

My first thought is that you need to get a big straw and suck it up. Quit being a wu$$y and honor the commitment you made. If, at the end of this contract you feel like walking away, then go.

If you are that hell bent on bailing out upon your return, leave your ID card, go UA and don't ever turn yourself in. Someday when you get pulled over or something like that you will be arrested, taken in and shipped off to a military installation for processing. You will be thrown out and then you can go your merry way. At least your unit doesn't have to deal with you or hear you whine like a 10 year old until the end of your enlistment.

Drop an Early Out Chit. i personally didnt so it, they denied my reenlistment because medical messed up my wrist, but one of the girls i was with dropped an early out chit. if i remember it can be for up to 1 year prior to your EAOS. Good luck with it

Does anyone know for sure if Guard Deployments are mandatory or voluntary. When I was in (not the Guard) they basically said we had to go, but Guard and Reserve were asked nicely and if they denied they were on to the next guy.
