    How to voluntary separate?

I have almost 14 years of service and on my 3rd 6 year enlistment (4 years left on this one). I did not get a re-enlistment bonus or any other type of incntives this latest term.

Im on my umpteenth deployment and tired of this stupid war crap. Any experts have a way to voluntary separate when I return frpm this craphole country I am in?

BTW I am in the Air National Guard if it helps.

TERA, but not sure if that is going to apply for you or not. It is only available to ERB selected Sailors in the Navy.

14 years in... 4 years left on contract... that would be 18 years... 2 years till paycheck and benefits for life?

Hang tough David... My 20 wasn't all beer, babes, and beaches... but looking back was worth it. Paid all my bills and set me up for my new career. It's tough right now with the drawdown (trust me I know I survived Clinton 92-00). Lots of stress, but there are ways of dealing with that.

      Good Luck.

Edit: and as for SRB's... every time I reenlisted in the 90's I got a handshake and a coupon good for a samich at the E-Club.

finish your 20 or you will regret it.

for the last 5 years, I worked with a guy that left the puddle pirates after 14 years 2 weeks ago he retired here with 20 years... I don't think there is anything in his life that he regrets more than not sticking out those last 6 years

course, if you have to go, you could always try this:

I'm sorry man. All I can say is thank you very much for your service.

With as much action as you've seen, a case for PTSD should be easily made.

My brother served 6 years, and when he came home, he applied for VA benefits. He was diagnosed with PTSD and hearing loss, and now gets 60% of his Army pay for life.

In talking with the VA doctors, he was told that after his terminal leave, due to his PTSD diagnosis, he would not be eligible for recall.

I would assume that if he is not eligible for recall, that any active duty soldier with PTSD would not be eligible for deployment. It's possible the Army would have to find you a job stateside, in non-stressful conditions, for the remainder of your contract....or an honorable medical discharge....

In the mean time, do you need anything? I am sure we can arrange a Calguns care-package to help out.

Just keep going with the current enlistment. Leon Panetta is working on cuttng forces across the board. I would say with in the next year these cuts will be underway. Active, Reserve and Guard are in line. Not quite sure of the numbers but I would say Guard will be in the top tier for cuts.
Who knows, maybe they will offer an incentive pay for you to separate.
Thanks for what you have done. Not everyone can do what you've done. I did 20 in the Navy. It was good for me.

Stay in there; 20 seems a lot right now, but trust an "old-timer" ('66-67), think really hard on this one . . .

2 years till paycheck and benefits for life?
Well, he's Guard so his retirement won't kick in until 65.

I really don't know what to tell the OP.

If you can't handle the "military" of the Air Force, and the "rough" Air Force deployments...

Used to be in the Guard you could just stop showing up for drill. You'd get dropped eventually. Technically they can NJP you, but they have to bring you on active duty to do it which is almost always more money and trouble than it is worth.

You can also request a transfer to the IRR. Make up an excuse about your job or moving away from your unit.

Personally I'd suggest you grow a set of balls and tough it out. You're in the AF, so they don't have to be very big...

Please don't advocate this as a reason to seperate if it doesn't apply; you will be only taking away from the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines who actually need the medical attention and support.

OP, We all have times when we as Servicement and women get tired of the BS that is shoveled our way, but do yourself and your Country a favor and finish strong, you are almost at the finish line.

Petition your chain of command to serve the rest of your enlistment in the Inactive National Guard(ING) or Air National Guard equivalent.

My first thought is that you need to get a big straw and suck it up. Quit being a wu$$y and honor the commitment you made. If, at the end of this contract you feel like walking away, then go.

If you are that hell bent on bailing out upon your return, leave your ID card, go UA and don't ever turn yourself in. Someday when you get pulled over or something like that you will be arrested, taken in and shipped off to a military installation for processing. You will be thrown out and then you can go your merry way. At least your unit doesn't have to deal with you or hear you whine like a 10 year old until the end of your enlistment.

As another poster mentioned, when you get back your best bet would be to apply for the ING (Inactive National Guard) until your ETS date.

Maybe you just need a break and might want to go back to drill status at some point down the road. But if by then you really do want completely out, you just ETS when your contract is up.
