Yea! Don't say no or I can't when the Drill Sergeant is pressing you to do something. Say I will try! They don't like soldiers that don't have confidence. When they are in your face don't take it personal--they are looking for the weaklings. Keep a straight face and don't show them that you find the mind games amusing. On marches, try to stay near the front--that's where the pace is steady those that lag in the rear end up with an accordian affect. You'll find yourself running a lot when that happens. Don't be a brown nose and volunteer too much--just do your part to show your motivation. Be a team player!

I just came back from BCT in May and I'm waiting drilling with RSPO at Los alamitos till i can start phase 0 OCS.
      Some tips:
If you have favorite running shoes and they are in good shape chances are you will get to keep them. To run faster try hill sprints try to get that run squared away b4 you ship it will save you from running till you puke to drop time when your there.
Learn the pt drills ie download a manual online.
Soldiers creed , general orders, chain of command.
The hardest thing for you will be the younger crowd coming in with no life experience at all who will annoy the crap out of anyone that understands true sacrifice and "hard work" they will annoy you but you will be expected to help them get through.
Don't comment on things you might know about especially around a drill sgt they hate that.
Go to sick call when you absolutely have too ie antibiotics, high fever, or somethings broke, but you will have your weeks schedule and can plan to go on a day you won't miss critical training.
Make friends, have fun, soak up the stories the drill sgt tells you.
Last no matter how bad you screw up know that before the day is done garaunteed someone else will screw up worse. The only.way you don't make it through is you get hurt or you quit. Good luck.

Everything everyone else said but it's a new army your coming into there changing alot of stuff, for example get familiar with the new Pt test a prepare yourself for those drills, TC 322-20 covers APRT which is the Armys new training program. Also make sure to get tie E3 before you leave it's too easy to get it or else you will have to wait a whole year why wait when you can be making the extra money from the start. Also start familiarizing yourself with all the AR's and FM's out there it will come in handy for when you get to your unit and want to go to a soldier of the month board armystudyguide is the perfect place for that.
Also contrary to what was said being a leader in basic does pay off, Platoon guides and assistant platoon guides get promoted at graduation unless they are already an E3 and get a COA for being a honor grad. Lastly always be motivated! Motivation is key

I don't know what your MOS is going to be, but find an IET book and LEARN IT. Like they said learn your general orders, soldier creed, phonetic alphabet, RANKS! ALL OF THEM, basic marksmanship fundamentals, and start doing PT LIKE A MOFO

MAX YOUR PT TEST! That's your best bet for school options after BCT

          For runs do 30-60's for 2 weeks, then 60-120's. I.e Sprint 30 seconds, walk/slow jog 60 (same for 60-120)

If you're going into a Combat Arms MOS, buy a rangers hand book and memorize it. Learn your battle drills! And learn your basic Ambush, Attack By Fire, Support By Fire, Machine Guns, Rifles, everything you can. If you are a Combat MOS you most likely will be in country within the next year. And you will need all this stuff.

Like I said, PT PT PT PT, best options for school. Don't be cocky either!

If you haven't even gone to basic training yet I feel that trying to memorize Army knowledge/tactics is largely a waste of your time. Maybe really basic things like rank structure or general orders, but nothing more... You won't truly understand the reasoning/context behind things like patrolling or LFAM until you have much more experience, which will not come until you're in a workup or deployed.

Just PT... your PFT should be at least 275 because frankly, you won't have much else coming out of basic training.

              This!
You might want to check out the new standards for the Combat Readiness test, sounds like it will be fun!

dont be a moron. seriously, most of the dudes you will train with are idiots. if you can put more than 5 words together in a sentence and speak/act with confidence, you will be above your peers. i also agree with the ones who say not to shy away from leadership responsibilities. if you are put in a position where you are in charge, take charge and be able to set the standard. i got an achievement medal and pt excellence out of basic. yeah pretty gay, but it might be worth points toward promotion later on and also it got me airborne and anything you can do to distinguish yourself from peers will help. have a career attitude from the beginning. you never know how much youll like it. most people say that the military is the easiest job they have ever had.

Shut up. Do what you are told. If something is offered you want to do go for it. Other than that maintain a low profile and keep in mind no matter how bad it gets it only lasts a few weeks.
