I dont think that is true, most people dont have a clearance unless they need one for their job. You may be eligible, but most probably havent actually done the packet and signed the paper work for it.

go downrange you get interim clearance... jobs that need clearance will make sure you have clearance... S6 S1 normally that i know of that need clearance for there jobs...

thanks for the input everyone. I did do the packet like 2 years ago. And it have a "investigation completed" date Its just that nobody has ever gotten back to me about it. My LT told me that that means I most likely have one, which a lot of people in my unit really dont have, theirs just say "None" in the elegible section. Idk why I wanted to ask, I doubt I'll get taking a job that needs one. Lol I jst wanted to know. Too many people are in the service and have no clue whats going on with thier own personal personnel. lol

Did you look on your ERB yet? There is a section that tells you all about your clearance level.

Clearances don't just magically happen, I had to fill out the packet to get mine done when I was enlisting. I've seen Marines in my MOS who somehow don't have a secret clearance who get left behind on ops or get sent to go work at supply. Your S-2/Security Manager can confirm your clearance, or look up the status of pending or interim clearances.

This, Ive had marines who dont pass the background and get shipped out of the unit. Or to be a desk jockey.

oh i have done the SF86 and the EPSQ or whatever it is called now. it was required for my civilian job. i do currently hold a SECRET clearence.

Everybody (at least Navy) coming in now fills out an SF-86. Prior to ever knowing what rate you will be, its part of the enlistment process. Been that way for at least 10 years.

Everyone in the Air Force has to hold at a minimum a Secret clearance. Some are given interm's why their background investigation is pending.

Non US citizens are not granted clearance but allowed to serve. Crazy but true

Long, long ago...

There were clearances based on a National Agency Check; NAC-Confidential and NAC-Secret.

The "real" clearances were based on a Background Investigation; Secret/BI and Top Secret/BI. The Secret/BI was equivalent to the "civilian" Q clearance.

Another step up was the Extended Background Investigation; Top Secret with special access qualifications, etc... These clearances routinely took at least nine months to complete.

The NAC clearances require very little paperwork but I think you'd probably remember filling it out.

The BI/EBI clearances required, among other things, a DD398. Six pages with additional attachments covering everything you thought about, let alone did.

Thanks for the input guys, I can't get access to my ERB (do reservists even have ERB's?) Lol only my HRC Portal which I assume is my OMPF. Just says Elegibility: Secret. Ehh guess I'll find out if I ever apply to FBI haha

Do you not have an S-2 at your unit? You do not have a clearance if you have not been briefed/de-briefed and signed non-disclosure statements. Eligbility and clearance are two seperate things. If there is no need for you to have a clearance then you don't have it. Several other posters have already said this. If you were to apply for a civilian job that required a clearance they could easily pull you up on JPASS and grant you clearance for their position. FYI...FBI doesn't care about your DoD clearance and will do their own SSBI.

Usually you sign a NDA every year. And have a S-2 "class"/Brief. In my MOS you need a clearance or an internim or you will not deploy in that mos, or at all.
