    Military Security Clearance

I'm just curious, but how would I find out if I have a clearance? On my HRC Portal I see this message in the Retention / Readiness section:

    Security Eligibility: SECRET
    Date of Eligibility: xxxx/xx/xx
Investigation: NATIONAL AGCY CHECK WITH LOCAL RECORD & CREDIT CHECKS(NACLC)
    Date Investigation Completed: xxxx/xx/xx
    Investigation Sent:
    Date Investigation Sent: //
    Investigation Opened:
    Date Investigation Opened: //
    Date of Correspondence: //
    Date NDA signed: //
    ...

Sorry if this is OPSEC, I tried to x all sensitive material out. But what does this mean? Some people in my unit have none in there eligibility. Does this mean I have one or just an eligible for one?

Like Korl mentioned, not every MOS requires a security clearance and it varies based on rank as well. If you have access to IPERMS and your unit is good about uploading all documents then you can check on there if you actually have one. did you fill out a SF86? I know with me I had to fill it out like 3 different times before it actually got submitted and processed. Or you could always ask your unit's full timers, S1 I think (even after a decade I still can't keep the S shops straight)

Mine changed depending on where when why what... I think everyone is Secret or at least eligible if they are in the armed forces ? and I think you would know what level you have or need since you should be interviewed when it changes (up)

S1 is personnel, S2 is intel, S3 is training/tactics, S4 is the enemy agent.

The easiest way is to check your ERB on AKO. It will be on the top of the page in the center. It was say "clearance" and most likely say "secret" make sure it says "Invest Comp" (investigation completed) and have a date that it was completed. Some people have them started and never completed and lose their clearance. If in doubt, check with S2 they should get you squared away. Hope this helps.

                  This.

Just open your ERB. If you don't have a need for it you probably don't have one. If you didn't fill out a packet you probably don't have one. A lot of people get a interim clearance if you are deployed. It is like a temp. clearance.

Everyone in my unit had a clearance level of Secret or higher. As far as I know that is/was pretty common. I had never heard of anyone in the armed forces have a clearance of "none" before. Guess times have changed. Especially since terms like HRC Portal mean nothing to me. I assume that is something to do with being able to access your records online? Or maybe it is a branch specific thing? I never paid that much attention to that stuff when I was in. If they wanted me in a briefing I stayed, and if I was not asked to stay I left. There were times when we saw things above our clearance level, it was impossible to avoid. If you saw something that concerned someone, your supervisor would debrief you and remind you that you didn't see what you saw. You just kept your head down and your mouth shut and didn't ask questions and you got along swimmingly. These days it is alot easier to access your records with everything being online, and everyone having access to computers. The Internet was just getting started back in my day, and most military personnel did not have a lot of computer skills. Add to that the increased threat and awarness about terrorism and I suppose things have probably gotten a little more complicated.

The information which is missing is what I would need to let you know of your clearance status.

But with that said, I don't want to know.

You don't say who you work for.

If you work for an organization that has a security manager they can look you up and tell you.

If you are looking at getting a job that requires a clearance all you have to do is tell them you had a secret and you are not sure if it is current or not. They will check it out for you.

Even if it is out of scope, just having it at one time is somewhat of of a benefit, getting you back within scope would just be a matter of investigating back to your last investigation.

coming on here really isn't the best way to find out about your clearance (just friendly advice). Just check with your security manager or potential employer, which ever case fits.

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect

                      2 Corinthians 3:3
You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

Clearances don't just magically happen, I had to fill out the packet to get mine done when I was enlisting. I've seen Marines in my MOS who somehow don't have a secret clearance who get left behind on ops or get sent to go work at supply. Your S-2/Security Manager can confirm your clearance, or look up the status of pending or interim clearances.

If you don't know if you have a clearance, then you're probably in a billet that doesn't need it. Eligibility is common. In order to have a clearance, you need two things...access and need to know. When i was in this is not reflected on HR files since it's a locally justified need. As previously stated, your SSO/S2 would know.

go to your S2 and have them print out a JPAS report on you... it will tell you everything
