    Enlistment Numbers

I know that there are a lot of people joining the military for economic reasons, but i also heard that enlistment numbers are down... So does anyone know the actual facts? are more people joining now than in past years? Are they mainly joining out of desperation or because they want to join?

any info about enlistment numbers would be great, im just curious right now.
    Thanks!

If numbers are down, I sure as hell havent noticed. We have had a ton of students through here, and are still overmanned.

I see a lot of people going through my recruiters office . Medics and Infantry slots are closed out for the Fiscal year supposedly. I joined because I wanted to serve and to acquire money for school. The economy was not why I joined

I know the Army has met or exceeded all of its recruitment goals recently and is returning recruiting standards to historical norms.

A recent (past week) bit on evening news stated that 75% of applicants fail to meet minimum requirements!

holy crap thats a lot. do you know by "minimum requirements" is that like, low asvab scores, not qualifying physically, or kind of just a broad shotgun statement?

As I understand it, a lot of recruits are failing to meet the basic educational, fitness, and moral requirements to enlist these days.

thats sad. but hey, at least it reinforces the fact that we do actually have standards for our military, which i highly support

How will downsizing make the numbers go down? I'm assuming "numbers" is referring to the number of applicants. I'm interested to know because the flood of applicants has pretty much made it almost impossible for me to join. I've been trying since 2008. I just have to wait for the economy to pick up and there be less applicants I guess.......

Basically the Army is at like 540k soldiers but their max is like 512k so basically they are over staffed and some people are on the cutting block

I require a medical waiver + I have an RE3 code. I qualify for a medical waiver, and re-enlistment waiver, but they have so many other applicants that don't need waivers and they always fill the seats before I even have a chance.

What exactly are moral requirements? Is that criminal history?
