I tell them "Cyber Operations Superintendent" which is the exact title of the career field I was in, at my rank. 99.9% of the time it makes them look at me like I just flew in from Mars.

Yup i always tell the information systems technician 3rd class and they give me the same look

Interesting answers, yet not what I expected from most vets. Just tell them. Lots of times their truly interested. If they're vets and you have something in common, that's great. If the OP asked me, I'd tell him. He may have been a vet, has a family member that's a vet, and there's a strong possibility that he has much respect for that individual and would have cut him a break. No reason to be defensive, even if you're pulled over by a cop. It works more than you would think. Just my .O2

if people ask me what i do i tell them i'm a mechanic not the most glamorous job in the military and people have no idea how important the job really is.

Think of how many times you've been pulled over vs. how many tickets you've had. If a cop pulls you over, and he asked you about things that had nothing to do with the reason that you were pulled over, based on a sticker on your car, your attitude about the annoying conversation that you're having most likely would have greater influence on what citations, if any, you received. He may have the same hobby as you, been in the service just like you, etc. So is the attitude, so is the response...just my .02 again!

My buddy (brad) used to tell people " i kill people of different colors, and people who wear different hats" It was a knock off of the george carlin joke. It shocked the hell out of people.

I have witnessed first hand what "sheep" do to LE and Military folks, Im a keyboard warrior and it still bugs me, Every time without fail,

sheep "so your a sheriff"
friend "yes"
sheep "my uncle has a glock"
friend "cool"
sheep "have you killed anyone"
friend "not this **** again"

and same goes for my army buddies, i actually get it at the most random times too being a Tech guy, I won an award for Best customer service/Employee of the year, And sure as S%it someone in the crowd asks for my card and if i will help them with something in the middle of my Ceremony. (not like i cared about the award but come on!)
