Bruemoon, mabye the reason youre stuck out on some lonely post all night is because youre an MA3, and youve obviously got a piss poor attitude. Why dont you serve your time, earn some rank, some experience, then youll be off your "lonely post". Come work for me with an attitude like that and ill have you guarding a port-a-****ter in the middle of the desert.

To the OP, I'm an MA1 (E-6) so if youve got any questions, let me know. There are so many parts of this job its hard to start talking about it. What your job will be depends on your rank, your duty station, and your NEC (MOS for you army types and such). Sure, some places are going to suck, but do your time, make the best out of it, and carry on. You can do anything ranging from sitting at some "lonely post", to working straight law enforcement, to force protection, to straight running and gunning. Like anything, to be successful youve got to keep the motivation up, and bust your *** to reach your goal. Nothing comes easy or free.

Since the "politically correct"-ness of the military began, everything has started to go downhill. We keep getting these kids in now that dont have a lick of military bearing, and do nothing but whine and complain. Theyre brand new FNG's, and expect to be treated like dignitarys, and they whine about why THEY have to take out the trash, or why THEY have to hump the M240's and M2's from the 1151 back to the armory, or why THEY have to sit at a lonely post all night, while MA1 and MA2 are "scuttlebuttin", "patrolling", or "supervising".

Anyhow, there is not a job in the world that is awesome all the time, or are good for all people. IMHO, to be a successful at being an MA, you should be bigger in stature, physically fit, coordinated, at least fairly intelligent (we do tend to get a lot of knuckle-draggers though, and theyre great when it comes time to start thumpin heads), confident, not afraid to get their hands dirty, and able to make sure and sound judgement calls. If youre nervous around people, or dont have people skills, id recommend looking elsewhere. Just my 2 cents, PM me if you have any further questions.

Oh, and your first two yrs could be anywhere that is alloted for a 2 year or less billet. GITMO is one of them, however so is Diego Garcia, Bahrain, ECRC, plus more...
