This is really going to be a matter of opinion... I've been enlisted for almost 8 years now, and I wouldn't even think about going over to the officer side of the house... not for a second... and I know there are a lot of enlisted members that would whole heartedly agree with me on this.

However, just because it is right for me, and my opinion that it is right for others, doesn't necessarily mean that it is right.

One of the hardest things about getting in as an officer now is that if you are not coming over from the enlisted side, but just trying to come in from the civilian world, they really start scrutinizing you harder... GPA even comes into play really heavily now.

In regards to this officer thing. Can you offer any info on the IPAP @ ft.sam ?

All i know is that its 2 years , hard , extensive and requires an AA to get it. Does it really promote you to Captain and give you a Masters Degree?

Here is as much information as I have on it:

If you have any more questions, I will have to hook you up with an AMED recruiter... as that stuff is a different world from what I do.

The info is very generic. If you can ask your AMED recruiter for some info i would really appreciate it. As far as me talking to a recruiter my contract is already signed as a 68W and I leave in May

I agree. There are so many people who want to do out of sheer desire to serve. Don't make it a backup plan.
LE is probably the same way. They both seem like careers you have to really want badly to perform well in.

You would be surprised. I thought I would be morally eligible too. I was wrong.

They are not granting many, if any, waivers right now. Especially not for Officers.

I think you might have misunderstood what I was trying to say... what I was getting at was that they operate as their own entity, that operates under their own rules. When someone is interested in this sort of thing, all we do is refer them as it is a job in itself knowing these programs as opposed to the regular Army programs that are out there.

I will try and get the contact info for an AMED recruiter for you that is out in your neck of the woods.

I can't do that... I'm finishing up my degree in it as well

But I do know that the CG is going to be much tougher to get into than the Army... right now all the branches are getting harder to get into. I'm sure they have some sort of MP, but I don't have much of anything on their reserves. Sorry drider.

Just spoke with a recruiter from the USCG, real nice person I spoke with them asking for further information about enlisted and as a reservist. I spoke with my fam members and other pass military people they said the best thing is wait for an opening in the career field I want as a Maritime Enforcement (ME)then get in! Then if I like it go full time.

I took the test a long time ago, scored a meager 95 on it, got on the bus to S. Louis to be probed and poked, and after five hours of haggling they offered me a job as a carpenters assistant. I already had a union card as a concrete finisher. I wanted to be in the infantry or artillery.

I left, finally became an engineer, and made a fair amount of loot but always wanted to be a marine because marines are the baddest boys on the block.

You do know if you join your chances of going into combat are very high?

Does your back up plan take that in to account?

I think as far as serving goes we would all like to to go Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and take on al Quida in mass, but the military is not run by generals, its run by the commander in chief and he's never going to face off against the real problem. The public just is not ready to accept WW3 yet, soon, but not yet.

You need to watch restrepo and than ask yourself just what it is we are fighting and if the brass is really ready to commit more than cannon fodder to some PR gimmick and a corrupt afgan government which has verry little support from the general population and which will collapse within 6 months of our departure.

Is that what you want to fight for?

I think until the roe's change, your just a target for taliban plinkers and road side bombers
