    Does this make sense?

I was talking recently with someone I know about guns. She didn't understand why the issue of firearms was such a big thing with me. Why do you need to have a gun/carry concealed, etc? It occurred to be that when I was deployed to Iraq, having a weapon meant safety. It was a means of survival, and a source of comfort. I never would have dreamed of setting foot outside the FOB without a weapon. And now I feel uneasy about setting foot outside my home without one. But I do, reluctantly, because I am unlikely to get a CCW. Does this make sense to anyone else? Are we trained to see firearms as a means of survival, and take this home fromt he battlefield? Or am I way off?

It makes sense. Your experiences vs: that of your friends, have led you to have that mindset. I think people in general who are unaware of firearms(never been around, dont know any better...etc) tend to be naive when it comes to real life threats. Whereas you, you've seen it or been trained for it and are aware of that threat.

Ehhh..so your not a blind sheeple, huh?
You've been there, done that, and learned the lessons of today's world.
Some learn it on the street, some on the battlefield.
I'd say you are totally normal.
Let's hope for a good SCOTUS decision tomorrow, then soon you and I both will be able to legally carry here.

I;m not holding my breath, honestly. A favorable decision is one step closer, but I see more legal battles ahead, than CCW permits being issued in California.

I had a CCW before I joined the Marine Corps. Ive always seen carrying a firearm not as power but as an equalizer.

That, to me, is the only thing you can ask from a firearm. I know, that if I have a weapon I am familiar with on me, that I have a better than equal chance of coming home alive if someone threatens my life with a firearm. I truly believe that I can beat anyone who would try to cause me harm as long as I have a fighting chance.

That being said, I would never shoot someone who was trying to take my money. Nor would I shoot someone who was trying to take my car. I could only justify it if the circumstances were such that I felt that my life was in imminent danger. But that's just me.

Agreed .... If my life is not in danger then all the material things can be replaced !!! My family without me cannot be replaced .....
