I understand if the goal of going into the Military is to aquire job training but thats not why I'm joining. I hear this so much. I don't want to be a medic in the military, or work on computers, et al... Because I have no plan of doing that later.
Youre gonna kick yourself later for not listening to sage advice about the military. If you get out w/out a marketable job skill (and combat MOS is not very marketable) and w/out a 4 year degree, you are basically a 23yr old high school graduate with some life experience.

Nervous? Not at all. I ship in 6 days. 20100614, The Army's Birthday. I just took my official APFT and scored a 286. I want to get a 300 when it comes time to test at OSUT. I want to earn a spot to go to RASP and get into a Ranger Regiment.

Good luck. Should have got that in your contract if Regiment is where you really want to go.

Hard pressed to find Ranger contracts these days, especially for Infantry. Theyve started keeping those slots until OSUT when they can actually measure the ability and motivation of the recruit instead of wasting contracts on recruits who complete OSUT, Airborne and then quit on day one of RIP/RASP.

Hey Cav, I remember in '08 ago going to DEP/Future soldier event at...Balboa Park(least I think that's what it was called). Lots of recruiters and tons of DEP'ers from all over SoCal, did you by any chance happen to attend that?

                        Here are some pics:

If it is meant to be it will happen. If not I will be perfectly content serving my country as an Infantryman. I have heard from Soldiers that have recently graduated OSUT and have earned slots to Airborne and RASP, that they obtained them by staying clean, being PT studs, and being the best Soldier you can be. That is what I will be.

A lot of people "hear" stuff in the Army. It doesn't happen unless it's in writing.

You're in for a rude awakening.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

Like I said before, if it happens it happens if not, I am perfectly fine with being a leg. I joined to be an Infantryman and that is what I will be.
