I thought this was posted earlier, but can't find it now...

A georgiapacking forum member (gizmo5), who is active duty Army station in Alaska, ran into a guy claimming to be a "special forces captain" at a gun show in AK on 08-07-2010. The forum member gave the faker a verbal arse chewing, took all the stuff the faker was wearing and let him go on his way. The forum member later made it his mission to get the faker busted and started to contact LE agencies. On 08-27-2010, Alaskan LEOs took the faker into custody for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Apparently, the faker has a long history of impersonating an Army officer, being special forces, being military police and passing bad checks. He was also wanted in five states for various crimes.

08-30-2010 Army Times article on the faker being arrested.

There is a student at a high school i work at, He is a USMC recon sniper, and Special Forces, depending what the government wants from him.

He has 21 confirmed kills, and has the most ridiculous stories about being blown up in a hummer and wrapping himself in extra body armor to survive.

Using a .50 cal to clear our houses, because its actually a pretty good CQB gun, you dont have to aim it kills everyone in a 20 foot radius and through walls!

This kid is a freaking pencil, no muscle at all, and he gets so many chicks with this bull****. He is turning 17 soon, i dont get how people believe him.

I cannot stand fakes and liars, so i ask him his MOS, unit excetera, well turns out he works alone, and the govt didnt give him a MOS to keep him a secret.

I nearly gave it all up just to beat his !@#$ing ***** in the middle of the quad,
I will never understand how people can steal valor from true men and women who served, signed over their life to fight for this country, and pretend like its ok, I will never believe its ok,

my gfs brother (15 yo) recently knocked the **** outta him while he was telling people about stealing a terrorist helicopter... he couldnt take it anymore, and someone with no prior military training beat down this "SF soldier" kid couldnt even swing a decent punch.

Thats the only time in my life i have ever seen someone claim to be something they clearly are not, i will call them on it everytime tho.

Well known and well documented syndrome of those who are not in a group but who want to be or appear to be. It happens to any group where there's some exclusion of others.

I see it daily with wannabe cops... and cops who pretend to be something they are not... and civvies pretending to be mil and mil guys pretending to be in some specialty when they are clerks... heck, even in college, guys hanging out with my frat who aren't in the frat but act like they are in the frat... what else is new.

Yeah, those fakers bother me. A friend of mine in third grade told me he was a CIA agent once, and that he kept his ID in a locked glass case at home. Dang kid should have been thrown in prison for at least 50 years. That'll teach 'im!

I myself served in the 10th Airborne Rescue Medic Sniper Recon Diver EOD Special Forces Awesomeness Battalion during the War of 1812, working under General Patton before transferring to the CIA to investigate the Nazi moon base and finally landing a Secret Service job protecting George Washington. I've been called to brief the President at his safe house in Oahu- I don't suppose you can spare some change for plane tickets and accommodation?

My neighbor...gave my dad and i this bull****:

****in doorknob shaker, toilet maker, gets "called" to Vietnam to kill a general. A Captian is ahem, *assigned* to him. Said captain has a minigun, guy asks him

                  "clear me an area!"
Captain proceeds to fire bursts cutting down trees ETC.

Apparently, this is still a stealth mission at this point.

So with his 50 cal (first a 50-110, then a lever-gun, now a $250,000 barret, ten years before they were invented hmmm) he kills Nguyen Giap (still not dead) from 800 yards.

Then dickhead *****es about VA not giving him benefits, oh man, swear my dad wanted to strangle him (real vet, real encounters with agent orange)

This guy is ridiculous. Walter Mitty.

A Story From the Other Side

A friend of mine was visiting from a country that doesn't allow their citizens to have firearms. He had always liked guns never shot one, so when he came by for a visit I took him to the range. Needless to say, we took every firearm I had at the time.

So here we are, two young skinny guys unloading a whole bunch of gun cases and an ammo trunk and setting them up at the table. There's a small group of people around the same age as us the next lane over, looks like a real outing...3 guys shooting and 5 (2 cute) girls posing and taking gun photos for Myspace. It looks like they've got a 10/22, a tacticool SU-16 and some handguns...nothing really 'special'.

Long story short, after a lot of...looking over...at us, some of the girls came over and asked us if we were in the military, to which we responded "No, why?". One replied, "Then where did you get so many guns...and like...THESE kinds of guns?". As I began to respond, one of the other smartalec guys comes over and says very matter-of-factly, "These guys are either military or doing something illegal because you can't otherwise get an MP5 with a SILENCER (Points to GSG)...an M16 (AR-15 Carbine w/bb and 10/30)...and a Barrett sniper rifle (Stag 6H Varmint AR)."

At this point, everyone in their group is now in our lane, looking over our 'assault rifles'. I motioned everyone to come in close and I whispered, "Ok guys here's the deal. I'm here training the new guy...but I'm also trying to find some recruits to train for a new deep-cover mission. I need 2 females to work undercover for a secret sting mission against the Mexican Drug cartels. If you ladies would be interested in this kind of thing, I can help get you in. All I need is your name, phone number..."

This thread has a single theme echoed through out:

"Those that did do not brag."

I spent my youth oblivious to those that surround me. My dad a Captain in the Infantry, my Pastor was an airborne infantryman and the barber that cut my hair for years served enough time with MACV SOG to retire. None of them ever mentioned anything about their former lives, it is strange to know that the guy that cut my hair in my youth probably had stories to fill a few books.

I spent my fair time in the Army and am glad to say I did my part, I was the best damn paper pusher I could be. My job was mostly talking to people, lots of calls to worried families and anxious mothers. I've seen enough death first hand to fill a book, but that doesn't effect me, it's the family that get's to me.

To this day I still pain when I remember talking to a young married couple (he's 20, she's 19) about how to arrange for their family to come and visit him from the US. He was fine, albeit missing both legs and half an arm with staples running down his torso. She, on the other hand to this day still devastates me, just sat there holding his hand, tears streaming down her face as I and her husband were having a normal mundane conversation.

No one ever called me to ask about the (always present) half a dozen or so guy with 5+ GSW with names like John Smith and Able Goodman that insist they were fishing in Ohio when it happened (I worked in a hospital in Germany or various CSH's in CENTCOM). After they get debriefed and the liaison clear me with them they had better stories and better names, at least something that made a little more sense. I saw a few of them died in the ICU and OR from wounds that fishing trips to Ohio do not cause. I wonder if their families ever knew or ever will know what their son, father, husband, brother really did and what they gave up.
