You know it, although back in NY, I had a Soldier in my team who went AWOL right after we got back from Iraq, his wife threw him a welcome home party and proceeded to bang another dude at the party. My Soldier walked in on them, grabbed his stuff and then just ghosted for almost a full year, got a job traveling the North East working for a carnival, running the tilt-a-whirl or something like that. Then one drill he just showed up, said he knew he was in the wrong but had to get his head right, was now better and was ready to face the punishment. Commander knocked him down from E4 to E3 for 6 months, and right after he got the rank back he went off on another deployment with a different unit and I never saw him again. I'm friends with him on FB or was at one time, eventually got out and became a trucker.

Good for him. Lucky he was only NG/Reserves, and not an NCO. Nothing iPerm'd I presume. So no one will be the wiser.

We primarily used dump pouches for stashing our partial magazines when doing tac reloads.

Second most common was a place to stash while doing SSE, since we moved fast and light so we didn't wear assault packs to stash SSE items. The only guys on my team that wore assault packs on a strike were my 18E's and every once in a while my 18F and we aren't tossing anything extra in their packs, they are already carrying Harris radios, batteries and both SATCOM and UHF antennas.

Third most common was a place to stash our smaller door breaching charges.

My favorite memories of the National Guard was smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee.
