    Purpose of a Dump Pouch

Research question: for those who were in a combat MOS, or worked in close proximity with those who did:

    1) What percentage of folks with a combat MOS would you say habitually carried a dump pouch on their belt when they went out?

    2) What did combat MOS guys actually use their dump pouches for? What did they put in there, when, and why?

Thanks, and thanks for your service.

Mainly used to store empty mags as trying to put mags back into the original mag pouch during combat can be time consuming.

Other uses - cigarettes, chew can, etc.

You can put extra full mags in there as well, for when your buddies run out of ammo/mag and they can grab one easily from your dump pouch instead of you having to go through the motion to hand him/her an extra mag.

Did I carry one? No, i had something more in the line of a buttpack, which was a b to use.

I didn't use one while in Iraq ('06-'07); we were mounted 99% of the time. I had one for Afghanistan ('13) on my battle belt but never used it. It's still on my belt, and I've still never used it, 7 years later. Combat Arms here.

It's so you have an additional item on your Clothing Record you are accountable for and have to keep track of so you don't get charged for it.

I had a total of 3 roommates go AWOL. Coincidentally, all their TA-50 gear went missing before the Battalion staff came to take report... and only 1 person knows where it went lol.

What did you do to cause three roommates to go AWOL? sounds like you're the common denominator lol.

I have a dump pouch on my training belt. Just a place to park whatever I need to get out of my hands.

Extra 12 ga shells so I don't have to keep going back to the bench.

Trash to make it easy to dispose of later.

Extra mags or empty mags during training.

Never used one on my 782 gear.

Works great for a water bottle as well. Can hold two.

Only if it is issued. Went through RFI last year prior to going to Kuwait wasn't on the list of crap to give us. Best thing to do is buy your own stuff and pack away the junk they give you at least the stuff you don't need to ever use.

Most likely, in every company I've been in, there is always a few AWOLs, I'm dealing with 4 chronics in my company now, one being an LT, and one E5 who is AWOL every other drill weekend it seems like. The sad thing about the guard is that unless they go AWOL for Annual Training or deployment, we really can't do anything to them, especially if they are not chronic. Of those four mentioned above, hopefully, two should be off my books in the next month or two.

They are to store spent or partial spent magazines. They work well if you have time to do a tactical reload. In an emergency, the spent mag gets dropped (faster to fix the weapon than to worry about the spent magazine). And yes I have one on my gear. Spends most of the time rolled up.

I shoot production division in uspsa (10 round magazines). Depending on the stage I'll have to reload 4-5 times (or more if i'm sucking that day). The dump pouch helps with the trail of magazines i leave in my wake. People who are taping up the targets will also pick up magazines and put them in the pouch without having to get my attention.

I also put brass in it
