Anyone here happen to have any experience in the Navy Intelligence Specialist rate? Specifically the NSW NEC? I have some questions. Thanks

Navy "IS" Rate

As an EW, I got to work with lots of IS's over the years, learned a lot from the good ones! The IS's are "big picture" analysts, the ones that give the Admirals the analysis for world events at the Strategic level. The IS rating used to have one of the highest attrition rates too, so if you don't make it all the way through the school, don't feel bad.
You could also look into the CT rates as well, "T"-branchers are the analysts, albeit on a much more local, smaller picture (Tactical) scale.
If you DO go into that rate, and had any preconceptions about the previous administrations handling of the GWOT being poor, then I will bet that your mind will be changed after finding out more appropriate information.
I did Tactical planning for 18 out of my 20 years in the Navy, with a few years on a carrier learning more about what the IS's did, what they looked for, how global events affected other global events, etc. My eyes are wide open, and I have a greater understanding on what our Defense leaders face when making decisions.
Good luck to you!

I'm actually moving over to the Navy reserve from the active Army. I know it sounds odd. I spend 9 years in the Army as an intel analyst and when I got out, picked up a job as Navy contractor, doing the same work. I'm just swapping services as a reservist since the Navy has many more opportunities here in CA than the Army does regarding the intel field. That being said, I'm not too worried about the attrition rate. I'm just trying to decide on what NEC I want to pick up. Leaning towards the NSW NEC. Thanks for the info PaulComment

I've had an app in for an Intel Analyst job with the Army (DoD) for a while now, working in Sierra Vista (Ft. Huachuca), but haven't heard anything yet.

Good luck to ya!Quemadmoeum gladuis neminem occidit, occidentis telum est.")

I loved my squadrons IS. She was on top of everything. Didn't really know to much of what she did behind that locked door, but when she came out she was **** hot. 20g sign on bonus nowadays couldnt hurt your decision making.Comment

That's the problem with IS types, they don't live in the real world. They commonly have a hard time differentiating between truth, sarcasm and humor.
What's the difference between intelligence services and the Cub Scouts?

PonchoTA, did you submit that app through CPOL? My last assignment in Virginia was at a science and technology center which was made up of mostly civilians. They all went throught the CPOL process and it took some of them a year from when they turned in their app until they were contacted. Also, have you ever been to Ft. Huachuca? I spent some time there and wasn't a big fan of the area. Do you have any EW experience? Pt. Mugu is uaually hiring, be it government civilian or contractor.Comment

Actually I don't have a problem with that at all. It's just that that comment has been overused so much I wish people would actually come up with a little originality. You seem bitter towards intel, did they pee in your cheerios at some point?

Why reinvent the wheel when the underlying statement works just fine. Hate to say it but your post only bolstered Fjold's thinking . . .
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.
As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.Comment

I first applied thru USAJOBS where I found the posting. I have also applied thru the CPOL for what may be the same position!PonchoTA, did you submit that app through CPOL? I have a buddy that works there so I would have a friendly face down there (though he IS a liberal!
) Plus, Tucson's not too far away, and my dad would only be about 5 hrs drive away.
I'm just getting really tired of all the BS that Kali is pulling, and it's getting even worse. One of the jobs I REALLY wanted down there was as a Test Engineer for the EW lab down there with the Elex Proving Ground (EPG). Totally right up my alley.
On my Status page from CPOL, it says several times "Your resume has been forwarded to the Selecting Official for consideration for this position."
I've made a couple of certs for positions at Mugu, but nothing solid, no calls or anything. Evidently being NAVSEA instead of NAVAIR kind of cramps their opinion!
Oh well, I'm still plugging away. At least I get to shoot a big, cool gun!
