I don't care what they say once a Devil Pup always a Devil Pup. A group from our Boy Scout troop went to Pendelton in the mid 60s. Pure hell while you're there and would never do it again but cherish the lessons later in life.

^^^ Funny I went to Devil pups summer "camp" at 15 years old back in 1990. Those instructors got away with more hazing than when I went to real Marine Corps boot camp, there wasn't much oversight back then. Most of the kids there were sent there by the courts or juvenile hall. Meanwhile I volunteered because I was so motarded at that age and loved everything about the Corps. Believe it or not it did help when I went to real boot because I knew what to expect.

I was deployed on the LHA-3 Belleau Wood. That one ship, the entire crew were devil dogs. Even the squids.

as a separated doc, I hate this. I still greet some of my marines that I keep i touch with as Devil dog, or killer, or f*cking moron, or the timeless "brother". Me being allowed to call my marines by something other than their rank or last name, and them calling me Doc instead of petty officer or corpsman was in the top 3 of my best days in the service.

The ship LHA-3 was named the Belleau Wood, the place in World War One where as legend tells, Marines earned the name 'Devil Dog." The ship was an amphibious assault ship, and held many Marines (2,000 as compared to 930 Sailors.) The entire ship was called the Devil Dog, and the CAPT would frequently get on the 1MC and talk to the Devil Dogs- the crew and troops.

I was stationed onboard the Belleau Wood as well with the 13 MEUSOC back in 94-95, did Operation Tandem Thrust then to Somalia for United Shield. I don't remember the Navy guys calling themselves Devil Dogs back then but they did call all us Marines that, my buddy got his bulldog tattoo design from that ship. She was sank for target practice a few years back.
