    HAHAHAHAAAAAAAA.......

I went through BCT at 39. It's only 2 months, and that's not even a fiscal quarter.

Who cares. We all have to pass APFT, range, combat life saver, and then "participate" in those confidence building things that carry no pass or fail requirement.

Remember, if you're lucky your Cadre will run you through a Grenade course (I threw two real ones, but went through the 10 lane qual with dummy grenades) and put in a grenade qual card in your out processing folder. So you can wear the qualification badge.

Whatever your MOS school is and when those AIT courses line up with BCT will decide your BCT location.

To this day the most scary time in the army (to include taking incoming fire in Afghanistan) for me was In Processing at BCT reception. Kids were climbing out of windows running away, and I was tasked with watching someone on suicide watch. Then others that slipped through MEPS but got stopped at reception medical because of mental instability.

To be surrounded by all those nuts in the same barracks and not being able to do a damn thing about it was unsettling.

I presume that experience is going to be the same wherever you go.

I attended BCT at Jackson. There was no relaxin'.

Sounds to me like the Air Force may be more to your liking than the Army. (No offense to the Airmen here.)

I went to Ft Jackson which was coed and a joke. I am harder on my apprentices than they were on us there. Don't choose Ft Jackson if you want to feel like you went through something challenging.

When I went to my first formation at 0300 or what ever it was and saw females I thought I was in the wrong place.

                Your MOS matters.

Without knowing your MOS - Go Benning!

Why! As stated above Basic is basic. If a friend said xyz was easier, well his cadre might be at the end of their rotation, or command had a laxed attitude. I can tell you now - Unless it was within the last 6 months - THEIR INFORMATION IS USELESS.

A new drill could show up fresh and take it out on you. New command could be in charge and its changed.

Too many variables to consider one easier than the other. A guy who also runs a mile in less than 6 min and can do 100 sit ups like no other human, would 'consider' it easier.

And to add: About your age. There might be someone older than you, there is always that old guy.

But, if you are the oldest and seem to be the brightest, you might want to start learning cadences and "Drill and Ceremony" commands. They will put you in charge most likely to lead the platoon, and you better have your ish together when marching your buddies around or calling formation. If you dont - you will get very familiar with one command - Front Lean and Rest Position.

I went to Ft. Jackson. and 3/4 of my battalion was female.
The hardest part of Basic was when my family bailed on coming to my graduation at the last minute. It was hard, but I felt like I was up to an even greater challenge while in basic. When I went to AIT for 15F all the rest of my class and the majority of Aviation MOS had come from Ft. Benning? My first duty station was a scout Battalion and there was only two women in it. No PC bull****, and the ranges were fun because nobody had to have their hand held.
During deployments the more female soldiers an NCO had the more likely they would not receive awards comparable to NCOs with out.
You are joining a team and your team can only be as strong as the weakest people. Join the strongest teams possible and start at Ft. Benning.

I guess that I'm at a loss. You are being offered a choice of where to go for BCT! And there is mention of terms like, "more relaxed", "rooms", "confidence building", and the such. We are talking about the US Army, right? If so, it is certainly a different animal than when I was in it back in the 60s.

Back then you had zero choices for BCT. You lived in barracks and everyone was treated the same - badly. They rode your *** the entire time and kicked your *** if you needed it kicked. You either made it through, went AWOL, or failed and got an other than honorable discharge - period.

How many stress academies have you attended? Most of us that have been cops have only attended one academy. Mine was a stress academy (LASD), but I went through BCT and several years of active duty in the Army before I went into Law Enforcement, so I was prepared for the "stress academy".

But I do commend you for wanting to serve. That idea seems to be a rare animal in this day and age.

When I enlisted in 1965, those of us that lived in CA were being sent to Ft Ord, CA. But, the group I was in got quite a surprise that day when we were told that due to a meningitis outbreak at Ord, we were all going to Ft Polk, LA..
Same thing happened to a friend of mine. Bussed from downtown L.A. to Ft. Ord - oops meningitis over to the airport and off to Ft. Lewis in Washington. Finally got there around 2am and stood out in the rain for 4 hours. Caught pneumonia and spent 3 weeks in the base hospital. He and my dad had a good laugh as he was in the barracks that were built in WWII as temporary housing when my dad was there.

Go Benning, go 11B. This opens you up to attend most schools in the Army. While you're at it, throw in Airborne school and RASP after. Oh and don't worry, you'll be back to Benning for Ranger and Sniper school later.
