Based on what seems to be proven thus far the guy seems to have been an incredible soldier and a true hero who served at a level very few will ever achieve.

But hopefully someone will find something out of place and prove he is really the lowest POS on the planet...fingers crossed.

My grandfather is 30 years Army (to include Vietnam) so I have pictures of him in correct uniform.

Yes, the Army has oak leafs in lue of multiple medals, so his photo is completely jacked. And they aren't even in the correct order. So his SIX purple hearts would be ONE medal with ONE silver oak leaf.

His bio says he enlisted at 17, made SGT by 18, and then went to OCS and commissioned at 18 and was a CPT by 20.

Is that possible? I don't know. Maybe guardianofvalor.com will check him out.

My father made SGT in 6 months after being drafted. So some things are possible. But I think it's a reach to make an 18 year old an infantry officer.

I'm just not buying it.

I enlisted in the Corp at 17 and made Sergeant just before turning 19. When I was in about 6 months I was being recruited for training as a helo pilot, until they realized I didn't have a HS diploma. His promotions are possible in the Vietnam, especially if senior officers were taken out of the line.

I was about to call BS and then i read his name. I have a book about him in my library. It's "Victor Six" by David Christian and William Hoffer and published in 1990. Pretty good read.

I could be wrong, but this guy seemed to do everything right and just got promoted and moved around to be moved around. He did it so perfectly I feel that it is BOGUS!! How long was jump school, OCS and SF training during the Vietnam war? He enlisted at 17 went through Basic and MOS school (maybe all done at the same time). Then proved himself so amazingly they promoted him to SGT in about 6 months. He says they then sent him to OCS and commissioned at age 18. How long was OCS school back then? At 18 years old he did jump school/SF training by 19 and deployed. They deployed him then making him an O-3 by age 20??? Seems fishy for a time line. I think a chunk of stuff can happen in a war zone if you prove yourself, but in garrison how do you REALLY SHINE LIKE THAT!!??

I suspect he served and probably honorably, but he got a little too creative with the pen and PX awards.

Ahhh talk about a picture perfect story, right? Probably has the gorgeous wife, big house, and nice car too I bet. 300 APFT score, 40/40 marksmanship, and poop probably never smells either.

My uncle was a SF medic in Vietnam with the 5th SFG. He is no longer with us, but I had many good talks with him over the years, and if I recall correctly his training was about 2 years. I think medic training might be longer than some of the other specialties for SF, but I would think that the training would still be fairly extensive.

The DD214 request has to be sent snail mail, so it's going to be a while.

I suspect Guardians can't do anything more than I am.

I do not presume the DD214 to match perfectly. What I do expect to see is a CPT's discharge with a Silver Start, Distinguished Cross, and multiple Purple Hearts.

That would be enough for me. Everything doesn't have to "match".

Nor do I expect documentation to be all pretty like. My father's Vietnam era Army Commendation medal is documented by nothing more than a memo with a hundred other names on it. But he does have the certificate with green protector, and that's MUCH lower than a DSC, and SS.

It just doesn't sit well with me how he wore his awards (ever hear of oak clusters), and the correlation of his public office run and trying to squeeze in a MOH 40 years later.

I get the impression he served in Vietnam, didn't make a career of the Army but continues to leverage it at every opportunity. Embellishment comes to my mind.

I have nothing more to call him out on anything, other than the fact the ONE document we are all salivating over is the ONE document he doesn't publish.

I can understand not having a copy of a DD214. Things get lost over time. However, he was able to connect with a previous soldier he commanded, get him to notarize a recommendation for the MOH, and send it to his congressman. Soooooooooooooo, getting an archive copy of a 214 shouldn't prove that hard.

He's open game because he ran for the US Senate. However, one would think he would have been called out by then. So there's a good chance this is all for not.

the SF guys I worked with in Iraq said their school was a total of about 2 years.

From what I understand SF medic training is about a year. Regardless his other SF training with selection I think would take some time. I just feel the time lines don't match up for the schools/promotions. I can deal with some "fluff", but I suspect there is a bit more than fluff going on.
