    Boots, insoles, etc....

    Hello guys,

What are you seasoned vets wearing/ were wearing as far as boots and insoles go if you did use them.

I have been getting some hot spots on the pads of my feet which are sore to the touch and tender. I also had a blister form near that spot but has slowly went away.

I read that socks play a role in making your feet feel better and I have recently switched to wearing only wool socks. I'm wearing fox river performance socks along with garmont boots. The boots are nice and light but idk if they are making my feet hurt. I will be going to AB school and know that you run in your boots so I want to make sure they will take care of my feet and have been kickig around the idea of getting some superfeet insoles for my boots as well. I have superfeet blue in my running shoes since I need a little more support but don't higher to high of an arch and those are suppose to be for medium are support.

As far as blisters go I used an old trick of wearing a pair of nylon dress socks under your regular ones. It kind of smoothed out any friction.

Also be sure to double check if your boots are acceptable for Airborne School. When I was in the only acceptable boots were leather sided, original soled BCT style boots and a lot of the non-IET soldiers were hurting when they had to go down to the PX and break in a brand new set of boots because their jungle boots weren't acceptable.

Thank you for the advice. From what I have gathered from talking to people who have gone recently it seems they have relaxed on what boots you can wear. A lot of people are wearing what they want as long as they are within regulation. The cadre seem to be wearing the nike boots since they are light. What the school says is that you should wear the bct issued boots or any load bearing boots like the black hawks.

So after reading your post, I Google thorlo and found a free offer for a pair of their socks. Only pay 4.95$ for shipping, so I ordered a set.

Thanks for suggesting a sock not just a boot.

I could not stand the black socks. I would cut a black sock portion that extends above your boot and slide it over white socks. No one knows.

You'll try the Thorlo's and never wanna go back. However, they're real pricey per pair.....like 18 bucks. But both my trips in Iraq, when I was functioning as a provisional rifleman, I wore Thorlo's never got a single blister. Broke things and sprained things a couple times, but never a blister.

Rocky's boots omg. My command issues them. Don't think they're army authorized, idk. We get these nice green socks too. So comfortable it's crazy

18$ is nothing if compared to hurting feet, and can't beat trying em out for under 5$.

The cut of the boot makes a difference as well. I can't wear Bate's for very long. They don't fit my feet. Belleville is ok, and they work just fine for my every day wear. I haven't bothered to get danners. For civvy boots, I wear Redwing, got damn near a million miles on both pairs, doing welding work (scrapes, burns), because they're the only ones I can find that truly fit me well.

Best socks I've found, are the black Dickies work socks at wally world. Throw a little gold bond green bottle in there, and I'm good for a few days (if I can't change). Only one motivator ever said anything about me wearing black socks. They're all I buy anymore. I have had good experience with the DLA brand brown socks (with silver laced into them to kill bacteria) that they sell at the px.

I've gotten one pair of those huge, thick wool socks, and hated them simply because they are too hot and I'm too POG to put that many miles on them at any one time. They are also so big I'd have to get bigger boots to fit them properly.

Lol. Jump in the Nike boots and let us know how your feet feel. I did my first two jumps with the nikes and regretted it. They were sweet for training and standing around all day but not for jumps. The first thing everyone buys when they get out of osut are new boots. I did too. Lol. But it turned out for me that the boots we got in bct were the best damn boots in the army just like the good old reception first sgt said. I say wear some light soled boots for training that doesn't involve landing. And wear some more study soled boots for the slam landing trainer days, sorry, swing landing trainer.

Ever since spring of '07 I've been rocking Oakleys, just bought my fourth pair, don't know if they are jump authorized, but for general purpose use, rucks and what not, they are great for me, I just have to wear the wide versions. I will say this though, when I ruck with a pack over 100 pounds (haven't done that in a few years though) the bones in my feet would ache afterwards, probably went too heavy too quick, oh well.
