Isolation is a symptom that feels like a cure. Force yourself to participate in programs for men like yourself. You will find people who can relate to your condition that need you to relate to theirs.
As for a rush, think about this:
Your wife and children need you and your soon to be born child will be completely relying on you to survive.
You have lives that need your support, do not fail them.sigpic

Don't use PTSD as a reason for throwing away your marriage and responsibility as a parent. You are a father, act like it. What kind of an example are you setting? Things get too tough so what? You just up and quit? Man up.
You have plenty of outlets to get that rush. Freefall, MMA, insert adrenaline sport here. You pick. But think of your child growing up without a father. You want some other guy to raise your kid?
The military I served in taught us to be tough. To be men. To never quit. I don't mean to be harsh but you need to wake up. You have a family who loves you unconditionally. Work through your issues. You're headed in the right direction because you know what you're doing is exactly what you titled this thread. So you know what you have to do. Grow up.sigpicComment

Many don't you respond to the posted questions vs. giving your non professional opinion on what you should do?Last edited by keenkeen; 07-17-2015, 4:54 AM."But far more numerous was the herd of such, Who think too little and who talk too much." -John DrydenComment

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

Not sure where you from, but VA Long Beach Combat PTSD Intak (ask forJonas) awesome dude. He goes hiking every weekend with other special force veterans and he trains boxing for free as well.Comment

OP where are you located at? Someone near by may be able to point you in the right direction locally.
You do need a support group of friends you can talk with. But so does your wife. Having friends who were dealing with similar issues helped me a lot, and my wife was able to vent and talk with their wives. I couldn't imagine how I would be where I am today without my brothers who helped me stay the course.Comment

I do not see dirtbag. I do the same stuff. I shoot guns, jump out of planes, go on long hikes in extreme heat or cold with a hundred lb ruck on, hunt for rattlers on said hikes to see how close I can get, jump into boxing rings, etc....the activity and risk tend to escalate when i get wound up over something but I think it is normal. Maybe I am wrong......anything that will give me a rush ....it does not compare but does take the edge off. But counseling with the wife may help if she is not understanding your need to taste a little adrenaline from time to time.....BUT as a full time single dad, my son comes first. AND he goes on hikes and it is a way for me to lug a ****load of weight and expose him to animals, the outdoors, nature....same goes for shooting.....it can not only ease your feelings but also be a bonding thing with your kids......Last edited by 1911whore; 07-16-2015, 11:16 PM."Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -Ben FranklinComment

When a man has children, his only job that matters is to make sure they reach adulthood safely and responsibly. Keep this in mind before you go off to feed your addiction. My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

^ That's right.
Sounds like he's blissfully unaware that it's an addiction/disease.
Good luck kid. I mean it.Comment

Looks like OP is in Riverside if anyone has local suggestions.
OP:
If you walk away from a wife and kids without trying to fix it first it might be the worst mistake you ever make in your life.
Find some activities that give you some of that rush then come home to the family.

Someone once told me PTSD is realizing you're never going to be as badass as you once were. Kidding aside, You need to find a new mission physically and spiritually. Part of that new mission needs to be taking care of your family.
It shouldn't be hard to find local veterans groups, they're usually advertised well. Try taking a trip down to the local VFW and having a few beers with the folks there, that will likely put things in a new perspective.Comment
