Tasered for openly carrying rifle in Texas

It is easy to judge after the fact. But maybe if the kid did the simple request of just laying down his firearm so they could talk to him things would have turned out differently. But no, he had to act like he did.

Go ahead and flame away, I don't care. If he would have just done as asked, things would have turned out differently.

He doesnt have to surrender his privacy and property if he is not committing a crime.

I kind of love this video.

Kid baits cops with camera and open carrying a rifle
-Cops respond and talk to him reasonably
-Kid tells cops he broke the law without realizing he broke the law
-Officers taze his *** and put him in handcuffs

I don't really get why they became so much more aggressive at about 10:30 in the video, it seems like a supervisor or sergeant showed up or something, because the officers tone changed dramatically at that point. But I really can't blame them for tazing this kid. He broke the law, he was baiting cops by having his camera out recording, he was being a smartass. He pretty much got what he deserved.

Can some one please post the section of the Texas penal code that he broke? I mean what law did he brake? That's right, he did not break any law. It was a little known city ordnance which cannot supersede state law. He was being free to go when officer "big shot" rolled up on sene.

So, being a smartass is no justification for getting assaulted with a taser?

Oh of course not, the police should have just smiled and waved to this kid and then went on their merry way. Their conduct was extremely unprofessional and they should all be fired and burned in a hole.

Kid will get a nice settlement, paid for by the tax payers
cop will have no ill effect
police state will grow ever more powerful

CA gun owners will say "play, win..."

What good is a right unused? i say file assault charges on the second leo that came in trying to play captain America. everything was fine and the kid was on his way till that numbnutts showed up. Videos like like fuel my disdain for bad cops and my love for good ones.

Dumb *** kid should of just went home the first time he was asked to and he never would of been tazed. I know a lot of people here are defending his rights bla bla bla. But in the end this will lead to more restrictions because it's just plain stupid. He has no reason to be out at night with a chambered Ar.

Thanks for wasting the Leo's time and taxpayer money dumb ***

That's what they used to say to black kids in a white neighborhood. It was wrong then too.

It's not that the people don't know what they are getting into. It's that what they are getting into is wrong and needs to change.

...he was baiting cops by having his camera out recording, he was being a smartass. He pretty much got what he deserved.
Wait so recording cops is now BAITING them?

You see what we are stuck between here in America?

Cops should be videotaped ALL THE TIME. They have a responsibility to citizens, and if they uphold that responsibility correctly then a video of the action will not harm them. In fact, a video of cops doing their job correctly should make us feel better about them. A guy walking around open-carrying with a video camera, ready to film any encounters with cops, is like a secret shopper at a department store. Even if he is a complete *******, it is the responsibility of the officers to maintain their own professionalism.

I will say that in this case it would be better if our Secret 2A Shopper knew his local ordinances.

Bolded.....is incorrect. They RESPOND to calls that are placed.....but once on scene they are required and expected to come to their own conclusions based on what their training and experience tell them AND.....WHAT THE LAW IS!

They don't have to like it.....but if what you're doing isn't illegal they need to pound sand.....and this crap of we're gonna think of every excuse we can to find something to ding you on in retaliation for doing something we don't like even though it's legal is BS.

                                What is your point?

If the kid has yet to break a law, hence it is none of the LEOs business. With liberty comes risk.

No one ever said living in a free society is safe. Nor can it be made safe and remain free.
