    AOW question

I've searched the forums and haven't found anything related to this. It may have been addressed, but I could not find it.

Can a pump action Mossberg 500 AOW have a detachable magazine?

Thanks ke6uj, I thought so. This is what I'm looking at - http://www.blackacestactical.com/#!p...o-receiver-kit

I'm pretty sure I would have to buy this ^, DROS as a shotgun, file form 1 ($200), receive a tax stamp and go to work building my AOW. It won't be cheap, but should be fun.

the issue you have to make sure is that it can never be a federally-defined shotgun, otherwise you won't be able to make an AOW on it. It should be 4473'd as a receiver, an "other" .

So.. should it be DROS'd as a "Handgun Other"?

I haven't looked at how a stripped reciever is DROS'ed lately, but the 4473 shoutd be filled out to reflect that it an "other", it is federally not a "long gun". and I doubt you will be able to get the FFL to DROS it as a "handgun" since it is not roster-compliant.

So, in order to remain legal, the DROS should be "Long Gun" and the 4473 should be other?

                yup, that should cover it.

how short of a barrel can it have? and still be legal in California if DROS as other. i've seen them with long grips and 14" barrels and still be 26" in other states.

any firearm that shoots fixed shotgun shells with a barrel <18" is considered an SBS in CA. illegal unless it has AOW paperwork. those 14" smoothbore pistols that are over 26" OAL might be legal in other states without needing AOW paperwork, are not legal in CA unless you have the tax stamp..

Assuming it can cycle reliably, that is incredibly badass. Thanks for sharing it.
