Sorry for thread jacking, but what about an out of state DL with a CA ID? Is it the same situation or does it change things? I have the exact same situation as the OP, except I decided to get a CA ID while I was active duty, but opted to keep my DL from my home state for automotive reasons.

      Are you currently active duty?

College students are allowed to keep their DL from a home state if they actually have a place in the home state where they reside for some portion of the year.

Vehicles are more complicated. CA law says that you must register any vehicle in CA which is driven or kept in CA for a greater part of the registration period than in any other state.

Thanks, that's good to know. Now hopefully I can get approved for a ccw in orange county with just an ID; I figure if I'm allowed to buy firearms with an ID I should also be theoretically eligible for a ccw.
