    Pre-registration handgun? Register now

I have an employee that brought a glock 32 (must be a gen 2 it has no light rail) to california when he moved here in the late 90s. He never bothered to register it. But it is on the list of allowable handguns.

Now he wants to get his ccw in los angeles. So his gun has to be registered.

What should he do? And was he supposed to register this a long time ago? Will he get into teouble if he tries to register it? Where does he go to register it? Just any FFL?

That's the wrong form for this guy.

He needs to use the new resident form for this gun. Even though he was supposed to do this a long time ago, it's the only law that I know of if the only way they found out you did not register is only by the means of you registering that you won't get in trouble.

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

At this distance, New Resident is off the table. CFARS and voluntary registration is the choice now.

Why doesn't he simply buy a new pistol, and be done with it?….If he absolutely MUST CCW that one, a new pistol would be a quicker way to have the required listed weapon.
One additional benefit he has now, is that he owns a weapon that the state is unaware of, and that alone warrants acquiring something else for his permit.

01-01-1998 = new residents of CA are required to report handguns they brought with them to CA.
01-01-2014 = new residents of CA are required to report all firearms they brought with them to CA.

Depending on what year he moved to CA in the late-90s, there may not have been a requirement for him to report it when he first moved to CA.

Have him submit a Firearm Ownership Report to have it registered in AFS.
            A. Go online to CFARS, then access CRIS to submit an online Firearm Ownership Report.
            B. Download the Firearm Ownership Report (BOF 4542A) from the CA DOJ BOF website, then fill it out and mail it to CA DOJ BOF.

Within 4-64 weeks of the payment for the report being cashed in, CA DOJ BOF will mail an acknowledgement letter.
^Currently, due to "COVID related delays", this may take 6-18 months.

And print out copies of everything you file. Some departments will not issue a CCW until the firearm appears in AFS. I b elieve some will issue if you have copies of what was filed that hopefully incluedes a filing or processsing number.

It seems that Glock introduced .357 Sig pistols, including the G32, in 1998.

But those were Gen3, with the rail and finger grooves.
